I'm dreading naturally... it's really early on in the game for me but I've ditched conditioner, sprayed salt-water in my hair and put down the comb. My hair is actually getting knottier day by day in a very good way. I can see this turning out very well... well, not very well in terms of the way other people look at hair (as a very vain thing) but very well in terms of having less of a hassle & less of a vain appearance when it comes to hair... alright, I'm rambling. If you're looking for perfect dreads then this probably isn't what you want to be doing, if you're looking for interesting dreads this is the way your hair naturally wants to be.

But, I definitely suggest spraying salt-water and if possible wearing a wool hat to help tangle it a little bit.

    Good luck.

You can't just use any shampoo tho. you need to use a shampoo that has no moisturizers in it. I use Dr. Bronnor's hemp castile soap. It works wonders. My dreads are getting phatty and they are 2 months old. I know people who used reg shampoo and dish soap and their dreads ended in a tragedy...

I use whatever there's available. :) Sometimes even hair conditioners coming with hair dyes. It's just hair, coming with you.. Nothing big enough to change your world.

    Suave leaves residues... eek.

I use tea tree shampoo by paul mitchell :) .. kinda expensive. but its good.
and every other wash, i use sea salt water (no shampoo).. that seems to help a lot. plus you smell like the ocean :D (or, if you can, use the actual ocean...)

yeah I just used any shampoo too in the beginning, it didn't really matter.. Dr Bronners is the shit though!
I don't really see the need of salt water but use it if you want to..
after 6 months my hair was sectioned for the most part and I started getting questions like "how long have you had those dreads?" while I was like "huh.. dreads?!" so I guess they started looking like dreads then :) now after more than 2 years I really have dreads and they're gaining length too! yay! goodluck! share pics of the process!
PS I got a timeline here: (no recent pics though really) http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/llloui/Timeline/
hm I got a recent vid lemme see [IMG]
just to give you an idea of the process (and to show off :p)
