Here is a little food for thought: The only significant source of local protein is animal: fish, deer, bear, moose are the big ones (the only other one I know are Hazelnuts). Most alternatives, especially soy, are grown a significant distance away, often on rainforest burned to the ground for farmland. Add this to about 3000km of shipping. Vegetarianism can actually be worse for the environment than eating meat (although not if you're the typical meat eater).
lol... what i hate the most about vegetarianism is that lots of people do it for the pride of saying "oh look at me im good human bla bla bla"... its a way to boost their image (of course not all, but the thread starter, defenitely) and man... if ye take the time to think, you're here for no god damn reason... you're here ... thats all... forget about right and wrong... all ye gotta think about is to get through this thing called "life"... and like in chemistry, everything needs balance, not all deaths are bad dood... we kill eachother, animals-humans-fishes, if we didnt we'd be swarming all over the globe with diseases and such. i dont care if youre vegetarian, but to bring down meat eaters is really a lack of logic, go read some books and get smarter
Also, the people who say we could feed everyone if we switched to vegetarianism are missing the fact that there is more then enough food grown in Africa to feed everyone. What their proposing essentially is food dumping, which would crush local markets, and lead to the starvation (malnutrition) of crazy amounts of people.
there is enough food now to feed everybody. it is a distribution problem rather than a supply problem.
i say, eat what you want to eat. dont eat what you dont want to. animal populations would be out of control if we didnt eat some. i am opposed to: 1. factory farms. 2. animal testing and 3. hunting for pure sport but eating meat doesnt necessarily have to support any of those. to each their own. oh and a tip to the wise (whatever the fuck that saying means): you can't make people see your point of view by insulting them. it doesnt work, and any smart lobbyist/activist would tell you that.
Of course there is, and Africa which has the most serious malnutrition problems, is not an exception. It's largest markets are agrarian food stocks. Africa has a lot of problems with instability, supply, and trade which lead to the horrible starvation problems, but even in the case of Niger afflicted by horrible droughts, is a distribution problem, not soley the drought.
With the biggest distribution problems occuring directly because of war (and the second biggest caused by agriculture tariffs/subsidies combined with aid, which is really just a "positive" form of dumping/subsidization).
Not all food aid is bad, in specific famines it can help out a lot, like it would in Somalia now. The situation is so bad in Somalia the AU is holding the relief confrences in the Sudan.
Well, I can tell you one thing. I am a vegetarian for health reasons, compassion reason's and religious reasons. Mainly for health and religious reason's, as I have found my body (after previously being veggie and going back to meat) rebelled. Though I can never become Buddhist (a full one that is) they hold all life as holy. *shrugs* I honestly think that as a Christian, God isn't unhappy that I hold his creations in high regard. But those are my beliefs. I find that pressing them upon others is pointless and a waste of time. The more you push, the more they resist. I agree with Wildflower, eat what you want to eat, do what you want to do. With one caveat: don't tell me what I am doing is wrong or be mean and talk about bloody meat. Other than that - I could care less that you are eating a rare loin steak, or whatever the devil you meat-eaters...eat.
fucking word (except for the veg/an part, I was only vege for a few months when I tried it. Alas, I suck at balancing my meals particularly when not consuming sufficient protein and just made myself sick)
Meat is good not only in tasted but for its protein . I sometimes think about becoming a vegetarian then I think about why would god put it for unless it was meant to sustain human life . I think that its wrong and disgusting the way animals are sometimes slaughtered . Sometimes it makes me think its a wasted life but then I just go on with my life and have a burger lol . I think that because all the shit we do to animals makes shit like madcow disease or that bird flu etc etc . How do you vegetarians feel about artificial meat I mean its not really an animal . I think before its over with we will have destroyed alot of things on earth and everything we eat will be made in the lab ...... So yeah just let me know how vegans/vegetarians feel about artificial meat .
Whats the point of poison? Can't eat poison. Lets just get rid of everything that we can't eat. And as for the democrats, I'm not saying god made a mistake, but they know what they did.
mushbead, just wanted to let you know i just said "fo sho" to my best friend without meaning to.. (i dont want to make a thread for this..) look at what you've done to me... ugh.. now i have to take that off of my list of things that disqualify guys from dating me.
That's terrific! ahaha. I didn't actually start using it in my everyday language until a couple days ago. I kind of like it. I'm glad that now I can possibly be a potential boyfriend
Well, you have to figure Adam and Eve were vegan in the garden. There was no death, and no need for milk. You get all that you need from plants, as animals that you eat do. Vegetarians just skip the proverbial middle-man. The only reason why they had to start eating meat, was they were not full-fledged farmers by that point and what else was there for them? Plus they weren't educated with the foods they needed to eat to live. Not to mention, God did allow them to hunt the animals for that purpose. Why else did he create fear in the animals? Your body has cravings, there is a reason for them - it's your bodies way of saying it needs a particular vitamin/mineral from the source you crave. They probably based their life off of this. When someone craved tubers, then they ate tubers. Meat, they ate it. Now that life has evolved, it is no longer necessary to eat meat/dairy. Humans continue to out of habit. Hey, that's cool - that your prerogative. I just chose to live how I think God intended for humans originally. Am I right about this assumption? There is no way to know. As for artifical meat, you could look at it as a bridge between veg*nism. For those in transition. Once you are able to create meals on your own that provide everything you need in them- there is no need for fake meat. However they are extremely helpful for the time-pressed college student and the person on the go. Boca's are the best, I recommend you try Boca burgers sometime for the experience.
