ok this is my stoned thought. and im stoned so im might run on a little bit.

major Record comapanies, being in the buisness for so long they probaly no what the next evolution of rap\rock\\country and then one of them pick up a nobody band and turn them into rockstars via majorly over marketed cd. Then all the other record companies get jealous and want there own little artist of the same new evolution of a genre. then the tell us listen to this music its cool, its big and shiny and gets major media intrest .consume!

so then all the people who were into the last evolution of a genre will get into the next evolution. there mayy be a small followingof fans that still like the older genre but at least 60% of them leave for the new evolution of a genre.

where do these bands go?? some of the major bands I like in the ninties arent around they disapeared.

    well thats it. sorry.

hehe thats a good thought! remember when backstreet boys and britney spears were really popular? now theres "new, good" music like the pussycat dolls and all these hip hop groups, but are those really that different? the industries just kind of guided us to liking that kind of band now. be your own person people!

Unpopular music is good cuz the artists aren't trying to please a record label. It's a true expression of their creativity.

In my theory the large mainstream record labels are really multinational (possibly) crown corporations. Since these enterprises have ties to the government (in theory), they are persuaded to market a certain image. Therefore the companies only take on artists who's images and music stay within the bounds of government 'standards'. Meaning that the music could be used to convey propaganda.

Because music is so deeply tied with culture, the government knows that if you control the music you can easily control the people, for example the brainwashed 'pop culture'.

This is known as indoctrination and it is a very real possibility, not only in music, but other media as well. Support independent labels, boycott the mainstream.

I don't give a fuck what genre it is, where it came from, who made it, or what (if any) record label it's on. I divide music into two groups: music I like listening to, and music I don't like listening to. Music is art, and the quality of it has nothing to do if whether the artist is in a multi-million dollar recording studio, or in their basement.

Here in the UK the biggest record buyers are young girls hence a lot of the manufactured bands are aimed at them. Fortunately there is still options for decent bands through independant labels.
