So I'm going to India in a little under two years (as well as Africa, but ignore that fact because this is the Asia forum). I have sooo much planned out; where to stay, when I'm going, costs, all that good stuff, but I don't think I really ever realized how big it truely is. My plan (with a bit of leighway; not everything has to be exact. If I find something I like, I may stay longer or shorter or whatever works) is:

    Jaipur (4 days)-Agra (3 days)-Udaipur (4 days)-Jodhpur (3 days)- Goa (10 days)- Mumbai (10 days)

Now, I just noticed today how very very large Goa is. Now, I was wondering if anyone here can recommend or suggest just what to do while I'm there (or in any of the other cities, for that matter). There's just so much to do, and for some reason I'm having troubles finding any helpful websites. Thank you very much :)

    Try my site:

    http://www.greylizard.net/justinsworldtravels.html

Ask me anything you want to know ;)

Jaipur (7 days) - Hated it there, tourist trap goto Pushkar instead which is 3 hours bus journey away - happy heaven!
Agra (3 days) - Taj, Agra Fort - not much else
    Udaipur (4 days) - didn't go there
Goa (7 days) - Not long enough - partys, Enfield motorbikes, parties, and parties and chilling, and food, and, and, and!!!! Head for Anjuna I say.
Mumbai (14 days) - take a trip at night in a taxi from collaba causeway to the airport - wonderfull!

Thank you so much, Static :) Okay, I adapted the plan a bit (after deciding to visit Jodhpur as well). How long would you recommend staying in Goa. Remember now, I'de be a younger traveller and am not planning on spending a ton of money on hotels. Do you know of any budget hotels or hostels in Goa?

    Vindaloo
This dish was brought to Goa by the Portuguese and soon became a popular Goan dish often served during special occasions. Historically this was a Pork dish cooked with plenty of wine vinegar and garlic, however it soon received the Goanese treatment adding plentiful amounts of spice and chilli. Restaurants usually serve this dish with chicken or lamb mixed with potatoes.

Vindaloo portuguese? I'd never have guessed that in a million years. my favourite food as well! :) Hmm... well next time I go for an indian I'll have to pop into nandos afterwards to finish it off with a couple of pasteis de nata. yum! :D

Jodhpur yes, lovely, the fort is worth a million days in Jaipur

2 weeks for goa will only just scratch the surface, there are loads of cheap places to stay, Rose Garden by the post office is cheap and good, about £2 a day, owned by a family with children.

The Lonely Planet India guide book does help, but don't take it for gospel.

Goa: if u want charter, nice standard but boring: baga
if you want beautiful beach but no party: palolem
If u want laid-back, with dope: arambol, north, not so much paradise but nice crowd
if u want the dark, extreme, dirty freaky and crazy: chapora!!!!!!!! No beach, but everything else....(it's near vagator/anjuna.)

Sunburst, yes goa is large, but its really only the coastline that you'll probably stay in. I can reccomend Benaulim. because its a beautiful beach, quiet though. You probably wont find any raves here (nice cheap guesthouse-ellora mansion. like 4 euro a night)
But check out nearby pallolem. THE most spectacular beach you will ever see. and theres a good scene here (stay away from the expat bars!)
also, the drugs are very expensive here compared to the rest of india. thanks to idiot tourists who pay the same price as at home. the quality is good. But nemesis, even for heavy smokers like us, smoking in that intense heat, is really crazy. makes you pretty paranoid. The police are cracking down on drugs there too because of their bad rep. so try to stick to ur hotel balcony or have a sneaky joint out in the sea. However-there is light! if you like your smoke, like i know me and nemesis do. you MUST,absolutely must check out manali, or any of the himalayas for that matter. its hard to believe drugs are illegal there. everyone sits in the little restaurants passing around chillums and joints. its a beautiful setting, excellent smoke. you get 10 grams for about 7 euro. of really really good quality stuff.
You really dont need to spend anymore than a day in agra, its a bit of a dive. and i never saw much of rajastan because it was too hot during the summer.
    have a good trip.
    Jenn xx

Going to India in 2 years and already planning you itinerary? Wow....
Anyway, 34 days in India is way to little, try 34 weeks instead.

My recommendation: stay a bit longer in Goa and less in Mumbai and Agra.
In Goa I liked Palolem beach the best and I found Benaulim and Colva the most crappiest.
Stay in one of the beachhuts there for around $1 or $2.

    Hope this helps a bit.
    Love, bird.

    Hey sunburst !!
heh plannin ur trip 2 yrs in advance...wooaahha!!
    ok heres my two cents..
Jaipur (7 days) - 7 days maybe a bit too much...u would ofcourse like to see the markets, the forts etc.
oh and u must go visit 'choki dhani' one evening..or maybe can stay thr a weekend..its a make shift ethnic village...nice food and a taste of rajasthani culture. http://rajasthaninfo.org/we-chokhidhani.htm

oh and someone mentioned Pusshkar..ive never been thr but have heard a lot..its nice to go a month before the real fair starts..it starts sumtime in november. and villagers from across rajasthan come to trade stuff[jewellery, cattle, harvest etc etc]

Agra (3 days) - Taj Mahal, the fort...that all agra has to offer really.
Udaipur (4 days) - hhmm not much to see apart from the the palaces etc.
Goa (7 days) - hehe i dunno how many days r "enough" in goa. anyways...anjuna, arambol, vagator is wat id reccomend. I just went this yr in december for seven days and we spent all our time on anjuna and vagator! nine bar is the place to go to frm evening to around 10 then head to another party... in the day u can go to the anjuna flee market to shop [IMG] the beaches ofcoure.. maybe go to baga beach or something, but thats got too many people...and is more for what id say the "hip hop" crowd!then u can go visit the church's, and other forts there...and then party party party:|
its not that expensive though...transport is what i spent on mostly.. u can hire bikes, or travel by bus and auto rikshaws.

Mumbai (14 days) - 14 days?!! wow! ok i think if ur not plannin on doing some work in mumbai 14 days maybe a bit too much...cut down mumbai stay longer in goa!! Mumbai..would give u a flavour of metro life in India do travel by the local train to get the "real taste"[IMG] hee hee.. apart from that the regular tourists monument if u realy want to go there...

if ur thr for longer..do visit himachal pradesh and kerela[ive never been thr though[IMG]] too...

    hope this helps for now!
