For me, Hendrix's cover of 'All Along The Watchtower' and Nirvana's cover of 'The Man Who Sold The World' are among the best, while Avril Lavigne's version of 'Nothing Else Matters' is the worst, hands down...

Cat Powers cover of Bathysphere (my Smog) I think is excellent, almost better then the original. Big Black's cover of The Model has got to be one of the best covers ever..

Worst? Hrm.. Can't really think of any at the moment.

anything avril lavine covers is pure crap.

Honourable mentions go to Guns N Roses' Knockin on Heaven's Door and Champagne Supernova done by some super shitty lame emo band who'd be better off dead than ever releasing another album for the rest of time.

Best covers include Ben Harper's Strawberry Fields and Thrice's Elenor Rigby....don't hate cuz i liked a punked version of a beatles song.

other things the dudes from metallica enjoy include hanging with Ricky Martin, so enjoying a little avril lavigne is no shock to me at all. after the ricky martin blow job, liking avril almost revives their rebellion.

That's Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" and I thought that it was alright, but pretty dull.

Best: Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends
Worst: Aretha Franklin - Jumpin' Jack Flash (although Keith Richards played guitar and produced it, so I don't know if it counts or not)

I am a HUGE John Mayer fan, so this one hurts to say, but his version of "Wind Cries Mary" just plain SUCKS.

Best cover I've heard is Matchbox Twenty remake of "Nothing Compares To You"

I don't know man, I don't think that Clapton reggae-ing "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is really that bad. It could be worse, he could falsetto it like Richard Manuel from The Band did with "I Shall Be Released" (that wasn't actually bad but hearing Clapton sing Knocking On Heaven's Door in Falsetto would be a horrible thing to think about).

    Oh, yeah...

I heard a bad cover of CSNY's "Helpless" on the radio a while ago, and it was the most horrible thing I've ever heard. It sounded like Chrissy Hynde from The Pretenders, but I can't be sure.

    (edit)
Never mind, found out who it was...
    K.D. Lang!!!!! It fucking sucked!!!!!!
