Hi, I have found in the last week caterpillars(Little green ones)eating my plants leaves. i grow outdoors and every couple of days i find that theres been a caterpillar under the leaf. Also i found one around the bud. any way to stop these pests? Could i put something around the rim of the pot, to stop them climbling up? thanks
Buy bacillus thuringensis. Commonly known as dipel or something similar. It only lasts 7 to 10 days, but won't hurt you. You need to learn their cycles. Normally they come when it first begins to get warm and the first rains come. But not all lepidoptera (moths, butterflies) are the same. You need to identify the little bugger.. If you don't see many, don't over react. Learn to share. If it is a big problem spray every 5 to 6 days. You need to see where they make their nests, leaves curled under sometimes are problematic in this crop. Just mush the leaves. Splat! If you are growing on a larger scale, bet the above. Also hand applied sulfur every 4 days when the moths or butterflies first come, will prevent them from landing on your plants. It burns them just like it will your eyes... be careful. There is also wettable sulfur that you can apply with a sprayer. Again, every 4 days....
