Get this.... I saw a guy wash his drive way and then dry it with a leaf blower.....I'll never ever understand the point of that.
What? The sun didn't shine that day? That takes the cake. Leaf blowers and people who use them are absolutely ridiculous. Blow leaves off the sidewalk, Car drives by, leaves all fly back up onto the sidewalk, idiot with blower comes back out to do the job again... Isn't it just easier to collect the leaves into a pile with a rake and then put them in compost? Or in those biodegrable brown bags that the city collects? My dad honks at people who wash their cars and use leaf blowers.
My neighbor sees fit to put sealant on his driveway every year. First off, it's wasteful and harmful to the environment. We all know that. Second, you're only supposed to do it every five years or so. So not only is he wasting his money, but also unnecessarily doing something harmful to the environment. He's also the kind of guy that spends hours (he literally did before he had kids and a heart attack) sweeping his driveway. I give him kudo's for not using water, but why? It's only going to get dirty anyways? He's a little kooky, but great for story ideas. P.S. Morning Mist - I love your sig quote
People wash their driveways because that is what is expected of them today. Unfortunately, we now live in a society where the beautify america movement has grown so large and powerful that theirs is the law we live by. Today with so much demand to keep property clean and tidy, to keep everything "looking nice" (usually just so some ultra-rich thug down the street can increase his property value), it only make sense that people would wash their driveways simply as a compulsion.
I have a neighbor that repetitively washes the driveway, deck, cars, house and anything in his path with his jumbo pressure washer. It's absolutely rediculous. Not only is it a huge waste of water, but it also generates constant noise polution. Very sad indeed. His property is really small so the driveway and house completely dwarf his tiny yard that's already taken over by a ghetto deck and canopy he compusively cleans. I think this guy needs someone to pull the plug. If it's not the pressure washer, he's out there with some sort of power saw, hacking up any kind of garbage he can get his hands on. Maybe we can circulate a special stencil to protest this obsession. A little spray paint could get the message through. Wait, that's illegal and further harms the environment. Serenity now!
It drives me nuts to see people throw away things could just go in the compost or be recycled. A lot of the people in our neighborhood have bins and the ones that don't have them act weird when we say..."can I haul that off for you so we can recycle it". They must think landfills are bottomless. These people are usually the ones that water their driveways too.
Last week after it had been raining, i saw a lady out the front hosing her driveway! How stupid can people get? We have water restrictions here..doesn't anyone care if we run out of water?!?! It makes me so angry.
I think you guys would really enjoy "Over the Hedge." It's *very* anti modern-society/suburbia/all that jazz. brad
I see people around here hosing down their driveways a lot actually haha, that and watering their lawns and gardens in the dead sunlight. Thats so stupid!! your not only wasting water because its so hot and sunny in the middle of the day, but ur burning ur plants. the water evaporating off the leaves can burn them haha. the best time to water ur flowers is when the sun is going down, like 1/2 hour to an hour before sunset. people need to think more man!!! peace~
My school...was watering the feild while it was raining today. I mean holly molly... the soccer feild isn;t going to absorb all that water ...its just going to get really muddy....
While I agree with you that tall grass is really nice If you don't mow your lawn, often times your neighbors won't appreciate it as much as you do! One must be both considerate of the environment as well as others.
i've lived in the islands my entire life and we don't have suburbs or anything creepy like that so all this stuff just freaks me out and seems so unnatural to me. the thing about all of the houses looking the same is really creepy but what has always freaked me out is that you can actually get fined for not having your grass a certain height! that is just crazy how can you tell people that they have to cut their grass and keep it a certain way!? and having it manditory to water your grass so that it stays green!? that is ridiculous! i don't understand how something like that is even legal! where i live you can let your grass grow as high as you want, there will be people who come by and ask if you need someone to mow your grass everyday but you can still do it, if it doesn't rain the grass doesn't get water, and you can park your old broken down vehicles in your yard. most people have at least one in their yard actually. and it looks more lived in and alive and natural like people with personalities and stuff live in the houses instead of robots with identical houses and lawns and families and jobs and cars and.....its just creepy.
wildfire, where do you live? We live in an area where people don't bother each other about the grass and silly stuff. If someone moves into an area where all the trees were cut down to make the houses, and all the houses and yards are identical, then they know what they are getting into.
i live in the caribbean and it's all normal with people and stuff, but the states just freak me out with the suburbs and the checkerboadness and everything it just doesn't seem natural or right...
