Uggh. Okay, so I was watching this thing on VH1 yesterday called "My Coolest Years" and it was people talking about what it was like to be a hippie growing up. This one dude, the one who went to 160 Dead shows, was talking about this one sick disgusting nauseating story. It was just before a peaceful Dead concert, the nomadic following was going through the parking lot to see the show. And you know what? Maybe 100 armed corrupted brainwashed psychopathic sickos of DEA agents and police officers stormed the parking lot and began to arrest the DeadHeads for having acid and such, or whatever lame excuses they used. If they didn't come willingly, they beat them down until they were weak enough for them to easily move into the police cars. It makes me sick! I was so freakin' angry. I swear it's a damn cult! Who the hell would join otherwise? Maybe they hypnotize them when they get interviewed for the job. They can't just mind there own business, can they? They have problems. They are disgusting. they make me sick to my stomache. I hope they BURN!!! ROT!!! -maniacal laughter- That concludes my rant.

Actually, I've often thought about becoming a DEA agent, after my Army stint is through.
    :H

Its obviously a sad thing, but so what? There are people being beaten by the state a million miles away right now for less than possession of a drug.

While the DEA beating hippies is moderately funny, you seemingly believing that following the Dead around is laudable is even funnier.

I can agree with you that them being beaten is fucking riduculous... law enforecement people have a bad habbit of going on power trips which, unlike acid trips, ALWAYS wind up getting someone hurt. While the DEA WAS enforcing the drug laws, they still didn't have to resort to beating anyone.

That being said, the dead heads weren't the kind of people you wanted to come into your town, unless you yourself were a dead head. I lived in a town they trveled through and while there were awesome people going around the town seeling goods and stuff to buy drugs and make enough to get to the next show, there were also people who would go to a local park and walk around naked. Granted, I am not personally offended by the human body, but they should have more respect for the residents than to walk aroundt heir town naked. There are designated areas for that. Not to mention, there were also some people who would have sex right in front of the towns residents, children and all. At the concert this could be expected and there is nothing wrong with people beign naked and shit there but I think it shows a disrespect for the townspeople by doing that stuff in the parks their children play in.

But not all of the dead heads were like that, and I have no problem with dead heads in general, and I myself LOVE the dead. But there are jerks in any group you go into...

But as far as the acid goes, that IS a risk one takes when they decide to dodrugs and follow a rock group. It may not be morally RIGHT but they did know when they went in it COULD happen. Much like protests... Protesters may be shot with rubber bullets and have tear gas used on them. Doesn't make it any more right, but it is a risk that they know and accept when they hold up a sign or whatever.

Lame excuses?! acid is illegal, so they were doing their job.
Now that is stuffed up. too many people join the force for the power.

This is one time I agree with politics.
If it wasn't for them, they could have taken that drunk driver off the road who would have hit your car. They are there for your protection. Sometimes they go too far. It happens with any job. It's just more visible there because of the fact they are such a public group.

I'm talking people who don't know when to stop and have to interfere with an attempt to havea peaceful gathering.

    I agree with WoodstockChild ...

While I don't 'hate' law enforcment officers ... I still think that the whole beating of 'hippies' because they have drugs is pretty messed up. Like alot of you mentioned ... there are ALOT worse things going on in the world. So why not send our tax dollars to those causes, not the harmless hippies on acid.

Honestly. Don't they have better things to do? I suppose they saw hippies at a Dead show an easy target. Arresting people gives them some sense of satisfaction.

im starting to be more open-minded via the drug busts and stuff. i mean, the part where they screwed up was by making em illegal.. now criminals reign in the black market, even though those hippies prolly wouldnt hurt a fly, theres a whole chain of people concerned in drug sales, and some that are certainly lot more dangerous then our typical peace & love hippies. dont think of it as a fact that they were mean to wimpy hippies, but thats their job and they actually somewhat do a good thing by busting dope dealers. just plant your own weed , smoke it to yourself.. and if ye really need acid, buy it from a dirty chemist , or become one.

ive heard too many stories about people i knew who got guns pointed to their heads during drug deals, and dangerous chemicals added in their bags... now whats worst? a dirty hippie behind bars alive, or a kid who died because of bad MDMA

not all cops are evil-doers, theyre people like you and me... but that doesnt take away the fact that some are prolly pure jackasses.

Acid can have varying effects that could put the people using, or others in close proximity in danger. In a way the law enforcers were making the event safer, the way they did it totally sucks though. If you break the law you should be prepared for the possible consequences.

Well, seeing how alcohol and cigerettes are legal and they kill people, I agree that some drugs should be legalized - or at least decriminalized.

However, we don't know the whole story regarding the dead concert. We only have his perspective, and it could be slanted. Perhaps a fight broke out and caught the police's attention? Or they were looking to riot, so the police had to use force? It's happened before, look at Hartford with the Dave Matthews Concert. People just riot for the save of rioting.

I am not excusing police brutality, it could have been a case where they went overboard. I just wouldn't label all law enforcement as evil from it.

my personal opinion is legalization of all drugs. To have the freedom of speech, the freedom of thought (cognitive liberty) is implicit.
however, given the laws in force, the DEA (and they are STILL on tour) was tracking the main supply of clean LSD in North America. they won. the silo was taken down (that was the drought a few years ago). pity they weren't getting the dirty little labs that were pumping out impure stuff....or paying attention to the meth explosion...could have stopped that one...

So my challenge is WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT NOW?
where will you spend your energy? whining of the past or fighting for a free future?
cognitive liberty is a basic right.

Freedom of though and speech are basic rights that everyone should have, but the freedom to choose to use, or not to use, drugs is another matter as the effects of drugs on society is great and the current laws are suppose to be for the safety of individuals and society as a whole. I agree that the drug laws need to be reviewed, but I don't think most illegal drugs should be legalized.

Opps I think the thread has gone off topic, better close it :) .....Sorry but I couldn't help myself. :p ;)
