So, how do YOU feel a bout the Howard government? Where will your vote be going next election? I am personally slightly depressed that Howard has been running the show for such a lengthy period. Can NOT get my head around it. I have a great t-shirt saying 'UP YOURS HOWARD!'... need I say more? The Greens will be getting my vote, as always.
Well for the last 3 elections I thought "there's NO WAY John Howard is getting in again", and each time I was proved wrong. So next election, I'm not expecting anything. I'm shocked that so many people voted for him even after so many scandals. I will also definitely be voting greens. Have you seen the website, resist.com.au ?
I dont think you want to get me started on how the Howard government has fucked us up because I would prattle on and on for ages about it. If you really want to see anything about it then my blogs are for all to see...unfortunately it is in the Murdoch owned myspace. ( http://www.myspace.com/bennyg1986 ) I will surely be voting for the ALP and Greens next election...Yes the ALP despite their weakness and thier domination by the Right faction. I have high hopes for Julia Guillard and the Left but Lindsay Tanner can get the fuck out... What really pisses me off is that our generation (the ones who grew up under Howard 1996- ) dont seem to have much of a diverse opinion when it comes to politics let alon an opinion at all. So much focus on sport or music or tv...the types I have come across are like "ah mate dont talk that politics crap with me mate...its so boring" or "fuck politics mate, V8s for me" I wonder if this unwillingness to think about the future will impact on Australia in the near future when the rest of the generation reaches voting age or their kids for that matter... PEACE, LOVE, MUSIC, BEER AND WARM SOCIALIST REGARDS ALL AROUND! KEEP FIGHTIN' !!!
why don't you guys just vote labor? greens vote's just add to labor in the end anyway.... i mean cmon, it's not like greens could ever win. ever. i guess it's just so you can feel good about yourselves?
Proportional voting means that the greens are able to promote their own policies and interests within Labor. Voting for the Greens also sends a message to Labor that they are not left enough. I don't vote for the Greens expecting them to form government. I vote for the Greens because I agree with many of their policies - policies that they can promote through Labor. I also vote for the Greens in the Senate because I believe that the Senate should not contain too great a majority from any party. If more people had voted for the Greens or other minor parties in the Senate, the Liberals would not be able to easily pass unpopular legislation.
Thus demonstrates the tendency of labour and liberal voters to "box" and feel frightened of "extremely" left views in a country that is so incredibly far behind Europe and even england in liberalism and at least ten years backwards in our environmental and social policies. We need Bob Brown more than you realise.
wow you really got all that from my one sentence? jeez you really got me all figured out. i guess anyone seeing what i wrote would immediately see all that bullshit you pulled from your ass.
True, which is why i voted for labour in the government and greens in the senate. But looking at the big picture, labor still aren't progressive enough to be considered that much better than the liberal party.
bob brown shook hands with george bush after his little speech in parliament in oct 2003. i asked about this when i corned a greens supporter/ organiser. they had no recollection of it, yet there are plenty of pictures out there for anyone to see. this was the same day that bob brown heckled george bush over iraq i think. the media never made more of this - curiouser and curiouser. either way you can't have it both ways, whats it to be??
Number one - If you actually knew the whole story, the issue was that Howard and Bush together disallowed the floor to be opened up to other politicians to ask bush questions, so if anything Brown was retaliating to what he saw as an attack on free speech. Number two - Why isn't he allowed to shake hands with George Bush? What is a civilised man supposed to do, fart on him?
There was this Barber shop near where I used to work that had this sign... "Too Bad that the only people who know how to run this country are too busy cutting hair or driving cabs"... Then again you always see Little Johnny hanging off any sucessful national sporting team...Especially the Wallabies, The Australian Cricket Team and/or our Olympic swimmers (he supports St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL too) just to make himself more sucessful and look good.
