Best Settings for LCD/Plasma Monitor???

Hello,

My father gave me his old flat screen Lcd monitor today. Its very nice.

I was wondering if I should have the power settings so that the monitor turns off after 5 minutes when not in use? I also am thinking of keeping the screensaver on blank....

Does anyone know the best settings so that these monitors can last a long time?

I just have it set use screen saver. In my opinion if you keep going to your pc every 15 min. and having the LCD turn back on could damage something. As for lasting a long time it hard to tell it you don't got a good power surge protector your screen and pc won't last if you live in an area that power keeps fluxuating.
