Yeaaaaaaaah I remember hearing about the red food dye made from insects... I heard about it on Street Cents a couple years ago.. That they were putting it in Fruitopia.

I didn't believe it at first.. But.. damn

beet juice is just as effective in colourings. Carmine/cochineal is in a lot of things. Why do we have to have bright neon coloured food anyhow? Have we becme so used to unnatural looking food that we have to add bugs to gt people to eat it? The most disappointing thing I have seen this in is grapefruit juice.

I guess the colours make kids want to drink them. Its sick and twisted....in my opinion... I mean here ave a slice of "chesse" but what your actually eating is a cafe stomach! Its sick...I really am considering becoming vegan now. I mean even in my yourgat. The only thing I'll have a problem is with no eggs & milk. No bread or cake.

Not all Rennet comes from calves, but its good to be label savvy. Whole Foods has a good selection of cheese made from vegetable or natural enzyme rennet.

true, a lot of popular brand cheeses which aren't labelled specifically as vegetarian, or 'suitable for vegetarians' are made with non animal rennet. you just have to read the labels

All these hidden animal ingredients are useless :(, they could just as easily use vegetable substitutes like some companies do, but god for bid they need to go the cheaper way. I stay away from all of them, the best thing to do is to buy stuff with only one or two ingredients in it, and don't buy a product with ingredients you aren't familiar with, unless of course you don't like to go this far with vegetarianism.

Yeah, my parents get pissed too, although I have a gut feeling that my dad doesn't understand it.... he keeps asking me to go fishing or have a piece of pizza.....I am very against fishing and hunting... :)

I have a more thorough animal ingredients list as a word document... if you want it.... um.....I dont know how to give it to you...

there are at least three non animal rennet cheeses available in the big supermarkets here if my shopping around proves me right. It really just requires you to be aware and to check the labels here that it says "non-animal rennet" as they are required by labelling laws to do so...not sure how it works for you guys but there are some damn fine tasting cheddars that are vegetarian available here if you read the labels.
    :)
