I've been vegetarian for about 3 years and didn't notice any change in my weight when I went vege, but since turning vegan 3 months ago there has been quite dramatic weight loss.. about 14 pounds in those 3 months I think.

The weight keeps coming off as my diet leans more towards a fruitarian one. It's not a massive problem as I can get fat from eating nuts etc. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this? xxx

When I switched over from Vegetarian to Vegan, I lost about 20 lbs in 3-4 months, which dropped me down to 102lbs which was too low. I've gained around 10lbs and am maintaining my current weight (which is a more healthy weight for my height).

I'm eating more protein that I was before, and I think that has helped. So prehaps stock up on the sunflower seeds and nuts?

i too lost a decent amount of weight. i lost weight when i went from meat eater to veg then even more when i went from veg to semi vegan. im 5'10 165 now and real lean. just proves how terrible meat is for you and how your body has such a hard time getting it out.

When I went from omni straight to vegan about 2 years ago, my body weight didn't change at all, for some reason. It has always been consistantly low (around 135 lbs for the past 2 years) and only recently have I gained weight to 140 lbs, probably simply due to growth.

But my friend Jon, who went vegan the same time I did, definitely lost weight, I think something close to 10-15 lbs.

(sigh) So far I have not lost any weight... I am only vegetarian & have not cut ALL dairy or eggs from my diet, but I still haven't lost any weight to speak of. Pity too, I really need to lose some.

I think my lack of weight loss is due to the fact that I was eating meat less than once per week anyway though.
    love,
    mom

dairy especially cheese is what really does it.

When i went from strict carnivore to vegan over night, i lost about 15llbs. Now that i'm back on cheese and eggs though, i'm not consistantly staying small.....which i think i've got to try to eliminate the cheese and egg as best i can again, but it's hard living with an omni even though he doesn't ever eat meat around me EVER, he wont give up his cheese or eggs, which i would never expect him to, but it makes it hard for me. anyways, i'm rambling haha

Going vegetarian alone has made me drop weight. I am thinking of now going vegan and I bet that makes me drop lots of weight.

Well, weight loss or gain is just math, really... If you take in more calories than you burn, you're going to gain regardless of what you're eating - the reverse is also true. Just because you're eating vegetarian - or even vegan - doesn't mean you're not still eating a lot of calories. I know a couple people who technically eat vegan, but they still eat a lot of junk food that just doesn't happen to have any animal products in it. For example, my local co-op sells vegan cookies that have 500 calories EACH! So if you're trying to lose weight, you still have to mind your calories. Take in less and exercise more.

Oh yeah. I dropped 15 pounds in nothing flat, and I was hungry ALL THE TIME. Thankfully I had a friend with 5 years under her belt. After listenting to me complain she informed me that, as plant based foods are not nearly as dence in fats and calories as animal based food vegans need to eat a larger volume of food to maintain weight. I thought (and still think) Bonus! "Oh no! I must eat another insanely delicious vegan taco or I just won't have enough calories to get me through to dinner!"

I don't know :p, I made the switch from Omnivore to Vegetarian to Vegan in about a week, but at our house, we don't have a scale :p so I cant weigh myself I guess. Maybe I lost weight? Who knows. Not my goal in the first place.
