The guidelines for calling something organic are pretty loose I guess, because I've heard many people complain about certain foods being certified "organic" but they're still full of chemicals. I just wanna know if anyone here knows of any brands like that. What to avoid and all.
well, if something is "certified organic" then that means that there´s a legal system behind it ensuring that it´s really organic. that product needs to meet national farming and processing standards (this is all pretty much verbatim from this book called "green living" by callard and millis). though, i have heard of some products saying something like they´re organic, when in reality they´re not (like what you´re saying). but i think there´s a certain label or something that it says that means what i wrote above. try checking with the person you buy that item from and see if it meets those standards.
Well, from what I understand, the "certified organic" label has certain standards BUT that doesn't nessicarily mean that it's completely organic....so legally someone can claim that their product is organic but it might not be as organic as you think it is. I don't really care, I eat processed foods all the time.....so really I'm just curious if anyone knows what brands might be labeled as organic but might not really be. Just another something to add to the useless list of information I have. P.S. I don't like mud.
My step-father works in a supermarket warehouse here in Ontario, Canada and has told me stories about "organic" produce and the way it's treated. ANY produce imported from another country MUST be sprayed with pesticide here. Even "organic" produce. And it's still labelled "organic"!! Imagine how many people are blindly consuming those evil chemicals, and paying more for it. Just plain terrible. I, for one, will never buy "organic" bananas or oranges...'cause we don't grow those here. I'll buy only locally grown organic produce.
