Politics is bullshit! Politics is wrong! Politics is BORING! Politicians think they were put on this planet to decide how other people should live their lives! Screw politics! I hate it! I don't trust politicians either! Who was it? Come on! We know you jumped on the hippy bandwagon only to diseminate your biased political garbage. So who was it! Own up! I want to know! Now! This is for my apolitical brothers and sisters: I'm drinking. I've got sacred cows to slaughter! Right Here. Right Now!
The Yippies ripped off the surfer lifestyle. I know that. You know that. When did you last see a surfer wearing a rosette? NEVER! Stop thinking you can decide how the world should be! It's where the 'hypocritical' in 'hypocritical' comes from, hoffmanites! As for Abbie Hoffman, did he work in the Department of the Bleeding Obvious, by any chance?
Ha! Although I’ve never seen a surfer wear a rosette, me mate’s got this Buick-sized (9ft., I think) balsa board on which a rosette and some groovy tribal Maori patterns are carved. Solid ride: you can salsa on that sucker. Anyhoo, I don’t know who associated the hippie movement with politics, but I’ll ask around. Apolicies are the best policies... I police me and me thinks the world is grand. And sacred cows, hot damn, they’re the tastiest!
Who cares... maybe you don't like politics, but there are lots of freeminded people (or, if you want, hippies) who think the politics in their country should change, so they take interest in politics. I believe that you live in the UK, so I think you can imagine loads of people don't like Blair, because he offered Bush to help him with his useless war in Irak. Furthermore, I would like to add that a freeminded person will take interest in politics, because he wants te world to change, to become more freeminded. Please stop hating, and respect other people.
I think its because most hippies want to change the world for the better. I have very strong political viewpoints, and I'm sorry if all you do is drink instead of doing something.
I totally agree with Floris And yup I'm one of the Blair loathing Brits, and used my brand spanking new vote to try and get rid of him (didn't work, but never mind. Always next time) Seems there are two factions of hippys; those who want to be free and make the world better. And those who want to be free and sit around getting stoned. Guess who makes the most progress.
Sheesh, I don’t think such broad generalizations are necessary. One could say there are two other hippie factions: the angry political hippies, and the dope-smoking surfers. Guess who makes the most progress? Well, the world is more paranoid than ever, as war wages on. But down on the beach there are people getting together, so happy together, their only worry: sharks. And really, a shark attack is so unlikely. So, yeah, keep voting, friend, even though your vote, Sage, had no effect, and Joe Cowboy, who voted for Gore in 2000, no effect, (damn, and Gore received more votes: Bush: 50,456,169 - Gore: 50,996,116… wtf?) Yes, what the fuck? Who to fuck? Let’s fuck! Oh, sweet fuck, let’s hope politics don’t get in the way aye. Oh yeah, an individual cannot change the world, that’s absolute arrogance… what makes you think an individual has such tremendous power? Joe Cowboy exercised all his strength and look where it got him: in the Bush. Good try though, and isn’t that what counts… trying? No. Elections are rigged, aren’t they? Free-minds interested in the close-minded world of politics? That’s an oxymoron. Perhaps these free-minds (or, if you want, hippies), who sit around getting stoned, realize that their vote has no meaning. They’re a particular hippie faction who’d rather contribute to their individual well being rather than stress over something of which they have no control, and I reckon 9 out of 10 dentists would agree: that makes more sense than flossing. “Why’s your blood-pressure so high?” Says the doctor. You say: “War, strife, world hunger. I read Hip Forums, the voice of modern hippies, nothing but cynicism: when will the shit hit the fan, government fraud, lies, the world is doomed, voting machines are fixed, innocent animals are dying and we’re eating their flesh, the New World Order is in charge, yadda yadda yadda.” Doctor says: “You’re a dummy, get out of my office, dummy… sheesh, cry me a freakin’ river. You wanna prescription, here: go surfing, dummy.” Most people don’t have their own life in order… how the hell do you think you’ll change the world when most can’t even balance a bank account. Ya’ll wanna change the world…that’s very benevolent, but you ain’t gonna change it with a vote… not in the west anyway. As this forum states over and over: WE’RE DOOMED! Whatever, no worries here. Go ahead… choose your leader. I choose me. I couldn’t care less about Bush and Blair and their evil politics… unless one of ‘em walks up to me and punches me. When was the world a peaceful place? Never. There’s always been war. It’s a part of life. Gotta live with it, I’m sorry. The more people on the beach the fewer people fighting. Avoid war: surf. Peace is found in the individual: politicians do not prescribe it; in fact, they thrive on war. They want your vote and you give it to them: a bunch of angry people voting for a bunch of duplicitous politicians. Yeah, there’s your highway to peace and love. Worry about the state of your country, worry about the state of the world, worry worry worry. Nice life. Go ahead, vote, show your support, give strength to your leaders, vote for the lesser evil, let them control your precious borders. Nice life. My land: I like to think it’s the whole world: the whole world is mine! I come and go as I please, I really do. Westerners have so much freedom, it's re-god-damn-diculous: it’s great! Stupid people don’t realize their freedom, stupid people complain, and foolishly believe their vote has some power in this world. There’s a phrase: God bless America? Bah! You think God blesses one part of the world and not the rest? That’s like saying: God bless my toes. What about the rest of me!? Go around the world, puppets, see how lucky you are. Or, drive to work and swear at all the dumbasses on the road, like you do every morning… they’re voting too… how’s that make you feel, all those dumbasses with as much control over the world as you? Useless, I'm sure. So, yeah, you keep voting, good job, you’re making a tremendous, positive difference. Alas, you could continue in the shadows of the 60’s, hippies, there's a blueprint down there somewhere. But look where that’s got us: we’re more paranoid than ever. Huh. Focus on YOU! Try lovin’ you and the people around you: to hell with politics. Oh, I dunno. Do what you will, whatever. I'm all for diversity, let's mix things up, vote, don't vote, surf, drive to work, eat pigs, eat plants, whatever. Please don’t yell at me. I wish you all the best. Hope to see you on the beach. I'm gonna pass out now, dream about a dream of a tongue in my ear so I can't hear the world get mad at me..................
Whoa that was moving....Van I agree with ya on some parts and have different opinions on othe parts..I think our voting system..no our whole system of system is fucked in the gourd...Theres a guy by the name of Mike Badnarik who is representing the Libertarian Party in this years election. Now its quite apparent that the powers that be would never let such a liberal man like this run our country but its a nice idea...Anyway I suggest to the forums that you visit his site, learn about him and his party and their cause..Whatever...Your philosophy of just going out and surfing is awesome..Just forget about politiks and this corrupt system of malarkey-power that tries to run our lives...Ya see, the majority of the American people dont seem to realize this..We, the people as a whole are simply a buncha bitches being bossed around...It happened in the sixties as Im sure all of you know and it can happen now..We need a change..The only way its gonna happen is by physically manifesting it. Get out their, spread your ideas, spread your love..Dont let anyone tell you what to do either...The premise of changing things is quite simple..Remember the stuff you were taught as children - Not to let people influence you, be yourself ya know..This sorta stuff is what we need to obey - the ONLY things we should obey..Its absolutely ludicrous that we are living under such pigs nowadays..Literally they are leaching onto not only their citizens resources, but the Earths resources and even the resources of other countries. Its surpring to see the relatively relaxed state of our country at times like these...I mean yes there are many people protesting our country's prescence in Iraq and other countries for that matter but events like these should rouse much more people...Our presidents realm of reasoning is completely out of wack..So if anyone is expecting any change to occur, actually DO something - post flyers, join rallies, protests whatever. Hold meetings, give speeches..I know it might sound useless to some people but in reality it does help..People do listen!! Make music, make love, expand your mind, share ideas. Do anything. Just have discussions with your friends and eventually the word will get out.Dag.
Damn Dude, thats really pessimistic. Votes do count. ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT AREN"T CAST. You not voting is a direct endorsment for the way things are now. So long as you can continue ignoring the evils perpetrated on others, you don't care. It's not like your life is being interupted, now is it? Our society isn't worth one hour, one day a year to you. And you have the nerve to preach this mindset to others?!? Less than half of Americans vote. Thats why we are in the straights we are. Apathy and pessimism. If even half of non-voters out there voted Green or Libertarian, we wouldn't have to settle for the lesser evil. But the people who vote already know this and the people that don't vote, don't care.
i think its cool to go out and relax and not stress a lot about politics and shit, but we also need to do stuff like protests, and voting cause problems in this world aren't going to stop just cause we spread love and stuff (that does help of course). The best of both worlds: getting stoned and taking a stand for your rights.
It’s pessimistic if you’re a politician… otherwise, I think it’s very optimistic. And you’re right: "votes do count, ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT AREN’T CAST." That means that the non-voters are making the most difference! Woohoo! You want change? You can try a third party. If everyone voted third party we’d have a slight change… maybe. Change, to me, well: whatever... variety is the spice of life; it’d be interesting to see. You want definite change, though: let’s see what happens when no one votes. Sweet hell, then what!? Are we stuck with our current leaders? Do these leader retain power? With no support, do they have power? I dunno. But one things for sure: there'd be a change, aye. It’d probably send us running for the hills. Anarchy! Maybe some real leaders would emerge… not some rich bureaucratic bastards, I dunno. Let’s just pray no animals are harmed in the making of this revolution. (internal revolution, lovers, let’s try that) Plus, the hills are very nice, especially if they’re by the coast. Umm… what else… I don’t ignore the evil perpetrated by others, nor do I ignore the evil perpetrated by bitchy Mother Nature: http://www.reliefweb.int/w/rwb.nsf (volunteer, climb a ladder, good job, lotsa travel, catch malaria and get some time off… it beats fluorescent lights, and holy hot damn, become a responsible member of society) And again, you’re right: my life isn’t being interrupted: it just flows, no one’s bossing me around, no guns to my head. Society isn’t worth one hour, one day, one year to me… society is a whole, and I am an individual. I can’t change all of you and I don’t want to… please don’t try to change me… hell, I’m one of the happy ones! People who try to change me should be more selfish: change themselves. It’s good to be selfish. (don’t forget, daddio: yin yang, you’ve also got to be considerate) Life’s so confusing. Not really. While global politicians play world domination, this guy’s goin’ surfing. This guy’s content in a tent; a well-informed leader of one... surfs and gets silly, enjoying my freedom with family and friends when I’m not busy with that aforementioned relief gig. And I apologize if I’m preaching anything… I saw this thread, hit reply and rambled on… just like now. They’re only words. Take ‘em or leave ‘em. And jimmyjimmycocopop2000, until you can intelligently contribute to the conversation, you are the idiot: Look at what you wrote, I’m sure you’ll find it is obvious.
Politics is simply sex by other means. You're not against sex are you? Reactionary political struggles for status within our 'Primate Sexual Hierarchy'. Civilized ManApe sniffing butts in 'The Jungle of Hierarchical Civilization'. Does it get any better than that?
VanAstralI said "Votes do count. ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT AREN"T CAST. You not voting is a direct endorsment for the way things are now." You should reply to the entire comment, not just the phrase that gives you a witty come back. If none of us voted, we would have even worse leaders than we do now. You are trying to justify your apathetic lack of concern with poor arguements. Fine, don't care, but for the love of *whatever*, don't try and spread your poison to others. People who tell others not to vote make me rage. Bad enough to be ignorant, worse still to preach ignorance to others. I gotta stop now, else I'm gonna get more insulting. This was pretty agro but I don't want a flame war.
Everybody who lives in the USA SHOULD vote, I get the impression that there isn't a single person on this entire site who is satisfied with Bush. All these votes CAN make a difference, and in November everyone who is able to vote SHOULD go vote, to end the power of this incapable, stupid, brainless idiot who gets off on killing people VOTE KERRY Love and Peace
