Haven't posted in a while.... I have aquired a commercial serger and single needle machine that has consumed every second of free time I have trying to get the hang of them. I'm no expert to machine sewing (although have been hand stitching for a while now) anyway - and these commercial machines are fast, but way harder to handle. So I hand dyed some hemp/rayon fabric and added this cute gnome applique (idea gotton from a embroidered patch I saw) and had this amazing gnome fabric leftover from a tote I made that I used for a pocket. I made these for my son, but they are a bit small on him, so I'm probably gonna put it up on ebay this week! Between the dying, ironing, making up the pattern, ironing and applique...and serging these took me forever. I'm in great admiration for you ladies that can whip something up so fast. I'm thinking with practice it becomesa bit easier. ok...looking for comments, suggestions, anything
Those are so cute! I've used a commercial machine a few times and yes they are hard to handle. I almost sucked my hand into it several times and went off the edge of the fabric a few times.
Thanks for the comments! Any tips on making pockets....I know they seem so easy, but mine always turn out just looking like a big ol square slapped down? I'm making a matching dress for my daughter and was going to put a "kangaroo" pocket on the front of a simple a-line dress and want it to look nice I am so addicted to sewing....my poor little bead box for my jewelery is so sad!!!
Take a look at some commercial pockets, like on the back of a pair of jeans, and make some shapes you like. If you line them, (cut out 2, sew them together and turn rightside out) then you can make some nifty shapes and stitch them down.
