A monk once said to Master Sozan, " I am a poor and destitute. I beg you O master, please help me and make me rich. " Sozan said vererable Seizei " yes Master " replied Seizei. Sozan remarked " having tasted three cups of the best wine, do you still say that your lips are not yet moistened?" EXPLANATION:Seizei says he is poor he is not talking about money but is referring to his absolute condition of being neither a subject or an object and ask sozan what he can do for one so poor. Seizei's question is the first taste of wine. Sozan calls out to Seizei and seizei hears him. that is Seizei's second taste of the best wine. and finally Seizei responds , " Yes Master" this is the third taste of the best wine. Seizei, you are alive questioning, listening and responding ! how can you say you are poor with unmoistened lips. What other riches can you possibly expect?
