I found this on the Library of Congress website, http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:H.R.4752:
This is before the House? Holy fuck! I told you folks the draft was coming, but you wouldn't believe me. Oh well. I'm in Canada. Dual citizenship. I'll be staying here, whether it passes or not.
The Republicans put up a gay marriage ban to try to bolster their support base, Democrats put a draft bill to try to make the Republicans look bad by scaring people. Nothing but election year stunts.
Exactly. If You've been around that long the same thing was posted before the 2004 elections. It's not going to happen kids.
The thing that disturbs me most about this, is that that was my first thought too. Then, it occured to me that I've seen ZERO press covering the bill, which has been in House since February. I came across it as a fluke. If it were just an election year stunt, don't you think it would be more heavily publicized? As it is, it seems as if it's sitting on the back burner hoping not to get noticed. Until when? Until that day comes when all of America is up in arms, prepared to do anything to "Keep FREEDOM alive". Any unmarried Canadian couples out there feel like gettin hitched? If so, my bf and I are up for grabs!
They don't need to advertise it, news gets around, and the last time in 2004 it was up it did get news attention, I think the whole 2-398 or something vote showed people they didn't have to take it too serriously.
He's right. The house and senate would both have to pass such a measure, and there will never be a draft for women in the US shory of a massive world war. I'm not trying to sound sexist, just realistic. It's a political stunt. Women don't even have to register for selective service, and they're going to draft women out of the blue? This is nothing to get remotly worked up over. If you want I can even dredge up the thread from '04. It'll take some looking though, and I'm ever so lazy.
Same old thing back around again. There's no support for a draft. But... And this is a HUGE butt... If Bush sends troops into Iran, there will be a draft, and legislation calling for it will probably be voted on in a matter of minutes after such a decision is made, 24 hours at most. Bush seems to have already ruled out diplomacy, so stay tuned. It will get quite interesting very very soon...
We'd never invade Iran. I'm not saying war with Iran is outright impossible, but it's very unlikely. If we did go to war with Iran, it would be a naval and air battle, which wouldn't last long. But frankly, the Iranian people might be the US greatest asset in the Middle East. They're young persians who love US culture. Iranian kids love hip hop. We should just try to flood the Iranian market with it.
We're going to war with Iran, and there will be a draft. I've been saying this since before Iran was ever on the radar. Once you get to know how these people think, it's easy to see what they plan to do. But if you don't know their motives, it's next to impossible.
It's not like Bush has absolute and unlimited power, and his support has seriously declined. Congress granted Bush free reign before Iraq. I don't see that happeneing again, not after the way Iraq turned out. No one's gonna let 'im start another war.
This goes way higher than Bush. Anyone who thought I meant Bush in that post is mistaken. He's only a puppet for the real controllers, and part of their agenda is war with Iran. There will eventually be a conflict with China as well. Quote me on it. Hopefully it can be stopped, but if no one does anything, we'll be fighting China in a few years. They want a global fascist state by 2012, so that doesn't give them much time.
