"Shingles" is the re-emergence of a virus which remains dormant in someone's body after they've had the chicken pox. The immune system suppresses but does not completely eradicate the germ so it makes a return when the immune system becomes compromised- usually but not always later in life. In shingles form the virus isn't as contagious.
Anyone who has had chicken pox is at risk of developing shingles. More than 90% of Americans over age 15 have had chicken pox. Although young people can get shingles, this disease usually occurs in people over age 50. The frequency of shingles is basically constant between the ages of 20 and 50 years (2.5 cases per 1,000 people per year). I am also on immune system supressing drugs...that is most probobly the straw that broke the camel's back... The sources I read said 3-5 weeks. With treatment it shouldn't be so bad though...
One of my teachers has had it for about two and a half months now... she has to wear slippers and she can't drive.
Yeah, I think that is this thing called PHN wich can happen after Shingles and is a pain that is where the rash is that can last for months or years. I think I am at risk for getting it which freaks the shit outa me...

I have to go shopping for my best friends birthday, which is today. I also have to make a few phone calls, cash my paycheck, and get some sleep. Big day ... but I can't seem to get away from the computer.
