Honestly, i think that the term "god" as used in the christian belief, is just an ideaology(hope i spelled that right) came up with to help people believe that there is something better. Honestly its a good idea for people who arent able to handle the fact that when we die, we simply become one with the Earth again and are later reincarnated. No offense to anyone here, but as i said, i believe the term "god" in the christian religion is just a means to make people believe theres something better as a means to keep them in line and not comit acts of violence and such. Its a good idea, but they based a belief system off of an idea, and they have gone astray with teaching people about what they believe in.

God in my opinion was always a folk tale that no one really questioned until science. I mean I can see how people believe it and I can also see how people don't believe it. Its a lose lose situation.

i'm an atheist. however, those of the christian faith use god as the be all and end all of their universe. god is used a a justifaction of violence, corruption, or anything else to justify the judeo-christian beliefs and values. we have the biggest idiot in america in the white house who has conversations with god. he uses god as the reason lives are lost in iraq every
    day.
god is the planet, the universe, good karma and good energy. there is not a supernatual being that humankind has created as comfort zone.

no one will ever understand god no matter how much they think about it. so ive come to the conclusion for myself that god to me, is a being to consider and ponder about; and not an excuse for anything else.

people say their morals are from 'god' but mine arnet. i dont sleep with everyone not because i 'dont think god wants me to', but because its not right to my personal beleifs about behavior. i dont smoke because I DONT want to, not because i think its against what religions preach.

I would like to point to one of many vocabulary definitions

noun: the supernatural being conceived as the perfect and omnipotent and omniscient originator and ruler of the universe; the object of worship in monotheistic religions

from this perspective, not looking at the "object of worship" half, God here as superior intelligence inhabiting space (endless?) which can make perfect sense considering we are here as well?

I understand frustrations of many against religious scrupules. but I like to point out that they are a narrative and a guide, our sense of morals and right and wrong. would you rather take hollywood movies as your good/bad guide? or.. the wisdom of our ancestors?

The best definition of God I've ever come across is from Bernard Lonergan whom I'll paraphrase here: "God is an unrestricted act of loving understanding."

i think it's a question qith no answer, a question that i very often asked myself

and i came to a conclusion, THER'S NOT A PERSON ON EARTH THAT HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT IS GOD

you know why.........because WE give the definition to god, someone will tell it's that and another will say it's that etc...

if it really means something, after all theses centuries, why are we still trying to give it a definition and find out what is it

but i never said that the definitions given to god are bad, well in my opinion not every definition, i think that they make sense

From an agnostic point of view, i look into alot of different beleifs. I think "god" was something more of an explanation than a "being" of any sort of supernatural or religious item before mass religions were about. But now, we have taken this term "god" and made it into what it is today - mostly a religous figure. Why? Personally i believe that we are scared of there being nothing after life - that being heaven, hell, or being reborn again as something / somone else. It could have also been a way to keep people from doing acts that were unwanted in a society. Preventing people from doing "sins" and scaring them into not doing them. It was a phsycological effect - if you did good, you would be treated good. if you did bad, you would be treated bad when the time came (generally speaking). A belt could be just as good as any religion - it could do you good and keep your pants from falling, or be a form of punishment.
But, the belt isnt a religion. I think that god is what we -personally- make it. It's what we use to reassure our selves in many ways. So, to sum up all of my rambling, god is what we make it. Some people dont agree of course, thats why we have many religions. And now there are so many and each one saying they are right, its no wonder people are confused as to who or what god really is. Its your choice, and nobody elses. If god really is all knowing, loving and forgiving, god will understand your choice, wont she/he/it, even if you are wrong?
Also, space goes on forever. And so far from what i see, space is empty. How can anything be created from nothing? Well, who knows.(Nothing exists - a paradox?) but if nothing can exist for an endless amount, then surely, anything can exist for and endless amount.
*gasps for air* just my opinion.

god is something big, friendly and nontangable about which nobody knows jack, but groups of people get to gather and pretend to know all kinds of things, none of which anybody really knows at all.
