So, I was wondering what everyone was really getting into this year? I don't have a very big list because not everything's impressed me, but so far I would recommend

    Mono-You Are There (Post-Rock/Experimental)
Cat Power-The Greatest (Lo-Fi/Singer Song writer)
Murder By Death-In Bocca Al Lupo (Alternative/Punk/Emo/Cabaret/Alt-Country)
    Danielson-Ships (Experimental pop/rock)
Band Of Horses-Everything All The Time (Indie Rock)
Pelican-The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw (Post-Rock/metal)
    Dresden Dolls-Yes, Virginia (Cabaret/punk)
    Islands-Return To The Sea (Experimental/pop)
    Tool-10,000 Days (Metal)
    AM Syndicate- (Punk/Indie/Emo)
Arctic Monkeys- Whatever people say I am, that's what I'm not (Punk/Brit Pop)

I'd love to hear what cds people are listening from 2006 so far

Well to be honest, my preferred types of music are Pop and Rap, and to be honest, neither of them genres have produced any decent music since last year.

I also quite like the band called KEANE, and one of their songs from 2005 called "This is the last time" is my favourite by them, and I also like the song "Everybodys' changing", which was released in 2004.

Hm, I certainly forget a lot of great artists/albums, but here are some I can already recommend:

Dirty Pretty Things - Waterloo to anywhere
    Delays - You see colours
    My latest novel - Wolves
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever people say I am, that's what I'm not
    Thom Yorke - The eraser

    to be continued :p

I have been pretty unimpressed so far. I feel Islands and Danielson are horribly overrated, just as The Arcade Fire were two years ago. While I enjoy many of the actual songs on "Return to the Sea" and "Ships", I have the same problem with each of them: Can't stand the vocals. That yelping lead singer thing that I-don't-know-who started is not appealing to my ears at all. Same thing goes for The Arcade Fire, except that I think they also lack good songs... I am able to enjoy two on that album.

I really don't know what I'd vote as the best of '06 so far.
Gnarls Barkley is great, but got old REAL fast.
At War with the Mystics, while containing many damn fine songs, still seems like a joke to me for some reason. It amazes me that Lips fans waited four years for that. Sounds like the band were hardly trying.
Haven't heard Thom Yorke's debut yet.
Liars, Built to Spill, Cat Power, and Ghostface Killah's albums are all pretty good.

    I dunno :(

Hey, if you're into Gnarles Barkley, I'd definitely say to check out Danger Doom, and Mad Villain, I'm positive you'll like those two.

I agree with you, 2006 hasn't really been too impressive, but I mean that might be because 2005 came out with incredible cds. I never had a problem with the Island's singer, but Danielson was something I had to get over. How did he ever become Sufjan Steven's mentor?

I was never a fan of Flaming Lips, I have one cd by them and that's enough.

And when the fuck did Thom Yorke release his debut cd? I never heard a word about it until now.

I pretty much grew up on Danielson, so I guess I really can't empathize with not liking his voice. I wouldn't say he was Sufjan's mentor, Sufjan was just part of the Famile.

The Thom Yorke cd drops in July, but leaked last week.

Now I know you had the best intentions in mind, but I can't stand DangerDoom ([adult swim] ruins everything). Danger Mouse has gone downhill starting with that 2nd Gorillaz cd. I know he can make some good shit, I've heard it, but I feel like he's just gotten lazy/complacent. Gnarles Barkley is the closest to redemption I think he will get, which isn't very close at all. Hopefully the new Jemini album will bring it all back full-circle. On the plus side, Madvilliany was a sick CD thanks to Madlib.

One thing that I have noticed with music, is that it can affect your mood and how you feel. If you were listening to nice, summer music during the sunny weather, it would make you feel good.

My favourite type of music is the Dance music that you hear at nightclubs.

If I listened to a sad, depressing, soppy song, it would make me feel sad and depressed.

So, music DOES affect your mood.

Yea, I'd say they were the biggest surprise of the year so far. Who'd a thunk anyone involved with Anatomy of a Ghost (Taking Back of a Cambria) had enough originality to be involved with Portugal. But in their defense, who wasn't in a copy-cat post-hardcore band in 2003? Not me :& .

Haha, god, Devendra Banhart drives me crazy. Why do so many people love his stuff? I've ranted about him way too many times, but people should check out his protege, Vetiver. He's like Banhart, with the talent and someone who can sing without making his voice sound like a shaky little joke

I posted this in another thread...
Camera Obscura ~ Let's Get Out of This Country. allmusic.com called this "possibly the greatest indie album ever recorded."
Jon Auer ~ Songs from the Year of Our Demise. I've been listeneing to this album nearly nonstop for about two weeks now.... I really, really love it. Its a bit like Elliott Smith's more electric-guitar oriented stuff.
Mojave 3 ~ Puzzles Like You. By far the most rocking Mojave 3 album!!!!!
Guster ~ Ganging Up on the Sun. My girlfriend has an older album of their's, which I didn't really dig, but the few songs I've heard from this one are some really well-constructed guitar pop songs.
Vetiver ~ To Find Me Gone. I've only heard a few songs from this album too, but I don't think they need any explanation. Vetiver is one of the best-sounding bands around.

    But I also forgot
The Flaming Lips' At War With The Mystics and
    Cat Power's [/i]The Greatest[/i].

I don't really dig The Flaming Lips' release all that much, though.... 2006 is really paling when compared to the last two :p
