    Well I suspect my cats may have tapeworm, and they are due for the deworming...And on top of that my dog has been mischeivous a couple of times and was caught in the back yard crunching on cat poo.

    Fleas=tapeworm.

    So I treated the fleas, but Im going to deworm them soon. Anyone have experience with dewormers they sell at grocery and pet stores? Will it make them sick?

    Wish me good luck!

    Most grocery store/pet store wormers are meant for roundworms. I would not reccommend it if you know they have tapeworms. My sister had to treat her lab mix for tapeworms. the vet first did a test, and then he gave him an injection which cleared them right up. He did not reccomend treating without testing, as it expensive and he felt uneccesary exposure to the med not be good for the dog. Are you sure it is tapeworms? This lab was horribly skinny despite being fed twice as much as the other dogs. For routine worming my vet gives me a liquid that can be used on cats and dogs and it is comparable in price to the grocery store stuff. You should talk to your vet.

    I use a once a month wormer Interceptor which covers everything but tape worm. My pup got them last summer & I called the vet, didn't have to take the pup in just picked up the pill. I never saw anymore tape worms after that one pill. The pill was about $6.00.

    I deworm using a herbal product that doesn't contain any chemicals. It is much healthier. I wouldn't recommend any dewormers in pet stores or grocery stores --- they are low quality (especially Hartz) and dangerous. Though you can buy the herbal preperations in some small pet supply stores.

    I was thinking of using Herbal, but Im not sure how effective they are. I will check out Wholefoods, and another health food store and see what they have to offer.

    Hartz brand scares me.

    We sell the herbal stuff where I work so we all use it, and we find it works well. :) You can see the worms in their poop afterwards.

    That sounds very good. Is it a brand that I could order online or find a specialty pet store or health food place? If so, I would really appreciate you pming me the name.

    Thanks

    i do not think that will work for tapeworm. you can see tapeworm in their poop anyway but that does not mean that they are going away. why dont you take him to the vet?
