    That's a highly illogical viewpoint.

A picture of a murder is not evil, the murder itself is evil. A picture is just a picture. The police look at child porn in their investigation. Why shouldn't they go to jail too?

Sounds like you went about dealing with the issue in a thoughtful and rational manner.

A password to access your computer might not be a bad idea.

Supply and demand. The greater the demand, the more likely pervs will be to try to supply it. If no one liked watching golden showers, there wouldn't be too many vids made and distributed with golden showers. I would think the same might go for kiddie porn as well. As long as there are people around to watch it, there will be people who will make it. By me looking at a pic of kids getting it on, I'm supporting child pornography. Not only that, but the more people are desensitized by certain things, the less it bothers them, and the more likely they are to act out on them.

This same situation happened to someone I've come across around here a few years back. He was caught looking up child porn on a few computers. Later on we found that his child porn addiction got so bad that he was hanging around schools to eye young girls. He even tried to pick one up, but some teachers or parents stopped him and reported him. I know he went to court over it, but not sure if he was found guilty of anything. But I haven't seen him since. I have to wonder if he was ever successful in abusing a child. I also have to wonder if it would have gone this far if he hadn't checked out child porn to begin with.

But now that I think about it, you were promoting child porn in a thread a couple of years ago, right? http://www.hipforums.com/viewarchive.php3?FID=58&TID=134296&year=2004 But then you probably don't think you're doing anything wrong when you check out nude pics of kids.

    Aren't you on a Mac?

Use the browser's cache removal tool
    Safari: (Safari --> Empty Cache...)
Firefox: (Tools --> Clear Private Data...)

Use Tiger Cache Cleaner to shred the virtual memory swap file:
(Clean --> Clean Virtual Memory Swap Files...)

Use File Buddy to shred the unused disk space:
    (Cleaning --> Erase Unused Space)

These tasks can also be performed via the command line. However, if you're not used to using the OS X command line, I'd stick with GUI programs.

The important thing to remember is the raw data will remain on the disk--even after deletion--until overwritten.

East Tec Eraser is a software app that will clean your system and do a better than DOD wipe of individual files, folders or your entire hard drive. We use it to wipe patient critical data off our PCs at work when we retire them. This overwrites the disk repeatedly to ensure no data is recoverable and you don't have to go through all of the deletions first. One step and it's gone. If you'd like more info, PM me.

There are only two possible reasons to make any kind of porn:

    1) The pleasure of making it
    2) Money

The people who make child porn for their own pleasure are still going to make it, no matter how many, or few, people they have to share it with.

The only people, therefore, who are likely to make less child porn based on "audience figures" are those who are making money out of it. Obviously, anyone who pays to look at child porn must know that they are encouraging its production. (That's just obvious.) But I believe that most people who look at porn don't pay for it. I dunno about kiddie porn but with regular porn there's so much free stuff out there, especially on newsgroups. In the case of hard core kiddy porn, I wouldn't have thought anyone out there would be selling it or paying for it. They'd get arrested straight away!

I agree and disagree with this statement. You're right in that the more you witness something the more decensitised you get to it. But I certainly don't think anyone would be looking at child porn unless they already found children sexually attractive. And I definitely don't think that by looking at porn you can be "turned into a rapist". If anything, I think porn releives sexual frustration.

To be candid, I once went about 2 months with no porn (I lived in a caravan) and never in my life have I felt more sexually frustrated. I was starting to think about going out and having casual sex (something I've never even considered doing before). Obviously though I can only speak for myself.

That's a very sad thing to happen. But I don't think you can conclude that "the porn made him do it"! There's no way he'd be looking at that porn unless he was already sexually attracted to children. And there's no way he would be hanging around schools for sex unless he had very poor ethical values, and I don't think the porn "gave him" his ethical values.

Yes, I remember that, now! :)

I wouldn't say I was "promoting" child porn. I'm not really sure whether it's a good thing or not. What I feel strongly about is that I don't think it's healthy for young children to be told that they should find adults sexually attractive, and not children of their own age. But in the society we live in, children are encouraged to have sexual desires for adults. And this sucks.

I just think that child porn would do a lot of good for a lot of children. And when I was a kid I would really have liked to have got hold of some. But obviously (as you've pointed out before) there are a lot of potential problems with making child porn. So, no, I'm not "promoting" it, and I'm not saying it's good for adults to be looking at it! I'm just saying it sucked being a 10 year old and only having porno mags with 25 year olds in!

(By the way, I know it's illegal for kids to look at porn, but quite frankly I think those laws are insane, and cause a lot of teenage pregnancy.)

You must have misunderstood me. I don't look at nude pics of kids. I feel sorry for people who do though, because I am a Christian; I love everyone (including all the criminals), and I hate all persecution. As a Christian, I believe that if you wish death upon a murderer, then you are also a murderer. A sin in the mind is just as much as a sin in action.

If I see any parent shouting at a child, or (worse still) beating up their child, it makes my heart sink. But I do not feel hatred for the parent, only sadness and compassion. Hatred destroys. Love saves.

If he's on a Mac how's a PC-only application going to do him any good?

Also, no "unused space" shredding application will shred the data while that data is still being used by the operating system, ie., swap space, cache files.

I have done all i am concerned with doing to my computer. Not going to freak out and delete everything, especially the thousands of pirated songs i have =P

anyway, i didnt commit the crime, so to go out of my way to cover it up might look wrong. SO, no worries, its pretty much over unless the feds come knocking, which i doubt they will.

You can get five years in federal prison for a single child porn image. Maybe you should rethink the "fuck it" approach.

there are no images on the computer, and its not a fuck it approach. The cops didnt give a shit, and told me not to worry about it, so im not wasting countless hours deleting and reinstalling all of my stuff.

Sorry about that, heron. That sucks major ass.

Good for you that you booted him.

Now, as far as what Dizzy Man said earlier. I completely agree with him. When we let the law tell us what we can read, watch listen to or even fucking LOOK AT...regardless of how sick and horrible it may be, then our civil liberties have been violated.

CENSORSHIP by the government is a tenet of fascism. Sorry all you puritans who believe the gov't should "protect us" (yeah, right!) from pictures and writings, but Dizzy is 100% RIGHT. What's next? Book burnings?

I've studied civil liberties for years and as a senior member of the ACLU, I can tell you Dizzy is right on the money here. Like it or not.

Any data that is being held by the OS when this runs is destroyed during the next boot.

It is not just for PC. It's called Dispose Secure (or something like that) for the MAC and is made by East Tec. Works with EVERY OS actually, Linux, Vista, MAC, etc...
