Been reading up on Burma and hearing wonderful things about travelling the country.
Obviously though there is a huge ethical question on whether one should go or not because your money for a visa and airport tax goes to the military junta.

Personally i feel it's justifiable to go. "By isolating a country and starving it's population of income in the hope they will have less to lose and revolt, is a dangerous and almost sickening policy. Many will wonder if all those who call for a total travel boycott rather than responsible tourism will visit China (occupying Tibet), Israel (occupying the West Bank and Gaza), France (nuclear testing in the Pacific) or even America and the UK (where do we start there!)"

The people want foreigners to visit, and if you spend your money wisely your money will go directly to them instead of the military junta.

But wondering if anyone here has been? If so i'd like to hear as much as possible from you about your experiences.

    Thanks

We were in the same boat as far as deciding whether or not to go. We will be going in November. It sounds like a great place, other than the current government.

I might go to Myanmar as well on my next trip. My advise: do not think too much, just go. Get your own advise and make your own adventure instead of borrowing someone elses.

Myanmar's military government certainly has a horrific stranglehold on the country, and they deal widely in drugs and slaves.

However, it's a beautiful country, and there are many things to see there. I'm not sure how much the government promotes tourism, but if they will let you go into the country and visit, it would be a great place.

Chill out, check out the temples, watch some Lethwei if you want to see sport fighting like you've never seen before, and absorb the country.

And you're right, I'm sure most of the money you spent could be given to the Burmese people and help them out.
