    another great debut album is the rolling stones' first (self-titled) album.

    It's already been mentioned, but the "Are You Experienced?" album is quite simply amazing.

    Pressed Rat's list is very complete, and somebody else mentioned "In the Court of the Crimson King". The only one missing IMO would be Soft Machine One (1968). This was another one of those unimaginably influential albums, that defined the whole Canterbury music scene.

    Only two great debut albums stick out in my mind, those are:-

    Liberation - The Divine Comedy (Well, they're first proper album)

    and

    Showbiz - Muse

    2. The Doors - S/T (1967)
    3. The Soft Machine - Volume One (1968)
    4. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures (1979)
    5. Portishead - Dummy (1994)
    6. Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left (1969)
    7. Jeff Buckley - Grace (1994)
    8. My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything (1988)
    9. Tricky - Maxinquaye (1995)
    10. The Stooges - S/T (1969)
