It is offical I will be in Amsterdam From the 2nd thru the 9th of December. What I would like is for everyone who is going to be there on the 4th or 5th of December to bring a small gift from your state or country to exchange for the christmas there. For example I am from Florida, so for a female I might bring a gel candle that is made like the beach or for a guy it might be a toy alligator. Or if your from the Neitherlands you could bring a small ring of cheese or small wooden shoes. These are just examples. Maybe someone from Amsterdam could mention a coffeeshop or someplace that is smoker friendly where this could happen. I like to experience the true culture when I go to the different countries. When I was in Germany I had a really nice Christmas with a German Family. This will be the first time in Amsterdam for me and I want to make the most of it. I am also going to some of the other small towns around Amsterdam that is not so tourist. Please post if you are interest in doing this.
Hm.. we, like I think in every other country, don't have christmas on the 5th of December However, we do have 'sinterklaas' which yes, is the 'original' Santa Claus, but has absolutely nothing to do with christmas. If you want to celebrate 'sinterklaas' then you really should do it all the way.. with writing a little poem (yes, it should rhyme and yes, it can be corny as hell) that introduces the gift (but doesn't give away what it is, because the receiver has to read the poem before opening the gift). I'm probably not up for it, because I'll be celebrating it with friends or sth and it's very close to my birthday, so I don't want to make any commitments right yet.. it's a nice idea though! Let me know if you want more details on the 'sinterklaas' thing!
yes I would like to know more. I am very into the culture of the different counties that I get to experience. I am not going just for the coffeeshops. Thank you for your help.
