I agree, it took me a while to get through but after i finished it I was really happy with myself for sticking through it. The Inferno is really a book for a dedicated reader, good thing i'm one of them, and you too of coarse...

The rest of the 'Divine Comedy' - 'Purgatory' and 'Paradise' are well worth reading too. IMHO Dante was one of the greatest poets of all times and places.

I recommend the translation of Dorothy L.Sayers (Penguin Classics) - by far the best modern version and very accessible with many explanatory notes, which are essential to get a full understanding of the intricacies of the work.

I also like very much the series of illustrations to Dante produced by William Blake.
