I'm new to this forum and am seeking help/advice from anyone whom can help or from others who have been in this situation before... I've been on narcotic pain meds. for over 4 yrs due to a car accident in 2001 that made me have re-occuring back pain. I will soon need surgery on my back due to this accident. The doctor I was under the care of for the past year and a half had me on a very strong narcotic called Duragesic 100 mcg patches plus ES Vicodin for breakthrough pain. This Dr. recently ended up moving to another state and reassured myself along with many other of his patients that the new Dr. taking over would continue with our medical care along with perscriptions and treatment. Yesterday, Friday the 26th of May, I call to get my medications for the Duragesic patches refilled, and the new Dr. denighs my refill, denighs to see me or to treat me. Basically, he is leaving me along with many other people in the area going cold turkey off of these powerful pain medicines! Duragesic patches are a very strong schedule 2 narcotic and nobody should ever stop "cold turkey" or all of a sudden because the withdrawls could kill you or make you real sick and end up in the ER, which is where i'll be headed soon along with many other's of this new Dr's patients. The Dr's office refuses to help, or help tapper me off this medicine, and claims no other Dr. in the area will help! How can a professional health-care worker do this to people? You realize how many people will either die, committ suicide, and end up in the ER and rehab due to this person refusing medications that many of us have been on for years? These meds. are so very very powerful and nobody should be taken off when we were not asked to be put on these medications! Animals are treated better than this! This is wrong and many people in the area will end up dead, in the ER or taking their own lives this month due to this Dr. and this dr's office! This drug is dangerous and is not to be stopped suddenly without tappering, and to be denighed this treatment is a death sentence!!! Thank you for your time and hope somebody out there on the WWW can help me or give me some advice on what to do! And on top of it all, this Tuesday i'm supposed to be starting my new job, a job i've wanted for so long and finally got it! I was on the 50mcg patches for 4 years (HA/Migraines), I switched doctors to get a new doc working on my problem, maybe a getting a different person to look at my problem would help I figured and I like my new doc better he is really understanding, anyways enough about that, I know how you feel you cant stop the patches cold turkey, go to a different doc this guy is a dumb ass don't even call his office back to cancel your app. go to a different doc or a pain management dr /DO. when you call the new dr just ask them if they can get you in ASAP, tell them whets going on that your dr left and you need treatment fro your pain. do what ever it takes because the withdrawals of the patches hurt. if you have anymore questions let me know.
