so one of my co workers was talking to my younger sister(who i work with) and started talking about how disgusting dreads are and so forth and so on. well at work i always wear a bandana because its pretty dirty whetre i work. my sister turned to her and said, bree has dreads. she said no she doesnt. so my sister had me take off my bandana and shopw her. she got all weirded out and grossed out and has been weird towards me ever since....i dont get some people...
some people are just serious assholes, and really ignorent and priviledged, and they refuse to acknowledge or accept any of those facts. i mean, rarely do i have to face the "dreads are dirty" comments, but it happens. and to this day, people often offer to "tighten my locks" up for me, or "clean up the loose ends" and it's just like...i dunno. whatever. that's so NOT why i have locks, and i love the loose hairs, so they can shove it. that's pretty much it, you just gotta not care what other people say, cause there will always be jerks out there, no matter how you look. can't spend time trying to please stupidheads.
The best thing you can do is educate them. If they dont want to be educated then they are ignorant... >.>
^ what he said. I get comments like "that's not attractive, you know" and "comb your hair, love" from pervy old men in pubs. My usual response is "oh, sorry, i forgot my purpose was to try and be sexy at you". it really shows up people's prejudice and ignorance when you think about what motivates these comments. it's a really fucked up mindset. Just feel sorry for them and be proud of your dready hair it's beautiful. xxx
Lucky you.^ *Sighs* Almost daily, since |'ve gotten dreadlocks, |'ve recieved negitive comments from my parents. Mostly my mother. She's almost constantly on my case exclaiming things like, "why did you do that to your beautiful hair?" Or, "that's really unattractive. It makes you look dirty." Blahblahblah. | wash my hair a lot. | just have a lot of loose hairs and a lot of "undreaded" hair. So it looks pretty messy. It's just something you have to deal with. | just keep reminding myself why | have them. And it makes me love them more for what they are becoming. So... Screw `em! Haha.. not too hippyish a thing to say, but you get the idea. ~Peace~
Dont get me started on my parents, I think thats a whole other thread there... Also i dont bother teaching them because its hard explaining stuff in polish (i dont care, its a second language to me)... And also they care what other people think of them. . . Bah because of my hair, my parents dont want to pay for my passport and send me to europe ... Bah, Im keeping my hair and I guess im going to try to get a job with my hair ... This gives me time to learn how to play the guitar and read all the books i want WITH MY HAIR... lol
Haha! That's sweet. What style of guitar are you learning? Folk? Classical? Rock? | just love guitar.. so, yeah! |'m just curious.

Certain people will always find a reason to hate, it doesn't matter what color your skin is or how you wear your hair. It must really suck to be them.
