I'm guessing you haven't seen it then cause the movie is about social oppression and it uses homosexuality in the 60s (if i remember right) as the main example. I wouldn't say it's a "gay movie." The two main characters that are in love just happen to be men.
Couldn't have said it better. I just rented it today and I loved it. Frankly, in my opinion love is love is love and it just so happens that this film represented that. The cinematography was beautiful and both characters were so real. I loved it! 5 stars!
i absolutely loved this movie i did think it dragged on a little but i cried so much both times i saw it i cant be stuffed going back and quoting the previous stuff before but i dont believe that there is any reason to say that Ennis wasnt gay in fact i dont believe his sexuality is really relevant at all the point is that he was in love with Jack (is it Jack? i have name-amnesia) no one except for him filled up that hole in his life. after divorcing his wife he never got together with anyone else. whether he was gay bi straight or anything else he never really managed to connect with anyone else he tried to suppress this aspect of himself more than Jack did. a thing that disturbed me a lot was when Ennis was arguing with Jack about the Mexico thing. was he threatening to hurt Jack if he found out he had been cheating on him by going to a mexican male prostitute or something? that confused me
I absolutely loved that movie, I own it. I watch it so much. It shows how much one can love nad hate at the same time. I loved it a lot. Have a great day everyone Chiz
I thought it was a perfect example of how selfish everyone has become. all those guys cared about was themselves. they didnt care about there wives or children. they didnt think about how much they were hurt byt the whole thing. i understand that it is must have been impossible at the time to be gay, and is still very close to being impossible now espeacially in texas or whatever, but really they should have taken into account everyone around them before they went and cheated on there wives and ruined there families
This movie is brilliant. It shows that love is love regardless of the sex of the characters. And as for that movie poster, where can I get some of that action? =P
ok, I did watch Brokeback Mountain, and considered all the comments on it gave it such hype that I had kind of high expectations of it. But to be perfectly honest, I saw it and I can honestly say I've never seen a movie that sucked more in my life, I hated it. 2 hours or so of my life I'll never get back. I really didn't believe the whole 'gay' aspect of it. Neither actor really played a convincing part in this aspect at all. So the whole idea of a 'true love story' and it being 'powerful' also was blown out of the water for me. The only reason why Brokeback got the hype that it did was that it was using this gay storyline with 2 very big actors and a major director. Lots of hype, bad movie. There was a lot of mumbling and to be perfectly honest hard to understand at times. I've yet to see him actually act in a movie. No different than actors like Ashton Kutcher or Vin Diesel. Pretty face, yes. Acting ability? not likely. (Finally someone I agree with!) I noticed that too, very inconsistant. This issue is my biggest problem with the movie. It's good to see that in a society of crumbling parents - gay or straight - we have movies to reinforce this behavior. Couldn't've said it better. Perfectly said.
that was one of the worst movies i've ever seen. Just being honest... i would go into why i thought so, but other people here have done a fine job.
I don't believe it is an amazing movie by any means... Not even in my top ten. However, I do find it to be a good movie. Being selfish isn't the issue here. Not one of you who has said this could understand what it was like to be gay in the 60s, especially in the south or wherever the hell they were. Yes, I completely understand what you're saying, however there are a lot of movies that I like where the main character makes poor decisions, but that isn't what the story is about. I don't know, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the story is how it was, and still is for many homosexual men.
I saw it for the first time about a week ago and WOW.... (first I agree with all your comments) And- I'll just say I LOVE this movie and I'm gonna have to buy it.
To the people on this page that thought the movie was horrible- okay, that's your opinion. I, however, saw the movie as amazingly beautiful. The small symbols of love that were conveyed without saying a word, yes the way time passed weird (as Annie didn't like), the inner struggle that I could some how feel, and even the beautiful scenery at the beginning- when things were moving quite a bit slow- with no hint of what was to happen. I actually found realisum in that. Some people said the movie dragged for them but it was the most recent movie of that length that did NOT bore me and I was actually disapointed when it was over. As far as the morality of the characters- they were people. Sure, what they did was not "perfect"- however, as stated by some others before homosexuality in that time period and in places like that... hah.... I feel they did care about their families, each other and did the best they could or knew how to. No one makes perfect decisions. Remember when Ennis stated the reason he "couldn't" live on a ranch with Jack was because as a child he saw a gay man brutally murdered- that his dad had actually brought him there to show him? I think that says A LOT about what Ennis was afraid of and the time period. It also forshadowed the ending. So horribly sad. I could tell at the end Ennis wished he had made a different decision but it really wasn't his "fault"- it was the time period and wow... I'm done. So sad.
Yeah, this movie wasn't very good. The plotline was very lacking and reminded me of one of those overly-dramatic love story movies from the Hallmark channel. The director never built up their relationship and expected me to care when they couldn't be together anymore. And I agree, the first sex scene seemed to come out of nowhere. Also, the music was shitty.
