I know what you mean man, 2 caf pills, 2 coffees, and 1 red bull, I am super craccked out right now, im about to fall asleep.
Hey where's Supertramp... As far as im concerned Crime of the Century may very well be the best prog\art rock album i've ever heard. anyone else???
Have to say Yes because Jon Anderson was born right here where I live.. But I like ELO alot, and have a great respect for Pink Floyd.
Forgetting categories, here's my list of the most influential artists of the 70's. David Bowie Lou Reed Roxy Music/Eno Peter Gabriel Steely Dan Little Feat Frank Zappa Jackson Browne Bob Marley New York Dolls The Ramones The Clash Queen Neil Young
What, you mean that Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young arn't a consulating firm?. Are they lawyers then?. But you are right,to hell with catergories..they can be useful as a general guide but it's better to just explore good records using your knowledge/taste/lack of knowledge/taste as a guide.
Yeah, you gotta have that cowbell... Just Kidding, although I love that sketch... "Don't Fear The Reaper" is a kickass song. They actually used the middle section with clips of the scarier parts of "The Exorcist" on VH1's "I Love The 70's" and man it really fit well. "Godzilla" and "Astronomy" also rank among their best songs.
I'm gonna have to say... King Crimson, Yes, and Pink Floyd. Van Der Graaf Generator is amazing as well, along with Tull and Genesis...
I don't really know when you qualify for this genre, but I think King crimson does fit the bill. This band is really great no matter what label you give it.
even though this is like 9 months later i have to reply to this......... Animals is there most un experiental and unprogressive album........ yeah........
Joan Crawford has one of the coolest melodies, both sung and played on the piano ever and an awesome ominous tone and lyrical content, as well. I hate it when people say a band is "gay" or "lame" when it's obvious they've only heard one or two of the most popular songs, which, almost invariably, will be the lamest songs the band ever made. If Blue Oyster Cult were a television show, they'd be a variety show. By saying that I mean they're random, they don't take themselves too seriously, and they're very fun to listen to. They were never trying to be Bob Dylan lyrically, or Igor Stravinsky, compositionally. You're talking about guys whose original name was "Soft White Underbelly". Hardly anything serious about the band at all. Anyway, I voted Yes, because they're the best progressive rock band to ever hit the stage, hands down, atleast the best 'mainstream' one.
I just realized that Yes is italisized in the poll. What is this person trying to say? I don't really know that E.L.O. and Jethro Tull are really progressive anyway, I mean, granted, both have covered Beethoven, but so did Rainbow and I wouldn't truly put Rainbow in the progressive catagory either as they don't really have enough progressive elements. Jethro Tull I'd easily classify as Folk-Rock and Rainbow as power rock, and possibly E.L.O. simply as orchestral rock, which now is a large enough platform to require its own genre, but neither Jethro Tull nor E.L.O. really modulated a lot (or ever) or used consistently changing meter, or even strange chord extensions and other unorthodox harmonic device or compositional structure. And I'd say if anything most latter-day Pink Floyd ranges from the Classic Rock formula to Space Rock formula (basically all pentarock structure with lots of effects and a few odd chord selections), with the exception of most of Animals which is basically Cool Jazz, or might as well be.
