Klaatu Barada Nikto From the movie The Day the Earth Stood still

This was the phrase used to stop Gort the robot.

Now, somewhere around here I have the short story that this movie was based on, Farewell to the Master, by Harry Bates.

Wow! Here is the entire thing!!:

The movie was good, but the story is better. It doesn't end like in the movie.....

well i do of course. just didn't reply sooner cause i really couldn't think of anything intelligent to add.

also came accross the story and noted the similarities and also differences. or at least a story. i'm not even sure it's the same one.

may even have been a sort of sequil. the big robot and the ship were in this kind of musium and supposedly they never moved, till some guy spent the night in there, and yes it did have a really interesting twisty ending.

the story i'm thinking of was in this anthology published back sometime in the early 50s if not earlier. i don't remember if the author's name was the one you mentioned or not. i think i did mention stumbling accross the story i'm refering to that might be the one you mentioned on hip forums somewhere a few months back.
