My scalp really itches in some spots. I wash them every day, and they're locking up really well. But, in the front, I have a little bit of dandruff, and my scalp itches real bad. Is there some sort of product I could buy, or a different shampoo to use? I wash them every day, and wash my scalp real well. I know I don't have bugs, I had my mommy check me. (she's a hair dresser)
I'm afraid to use Head and Shoulders shampoo because it might make them loosen. I am using Herbal Essences shampoo until I can find something residue free.
    Thanks!

Also, my dreads are wavy, is the normal? My hair is naturally wavy, and VERY tangley.

Urgh Herbal Essences.. they test on animals :( anyway.. If you are desperate for a product to relieve itches, then buy one of the spray-on things from something like Knottyboy. But tea tree oil worked just fine for me. :) Oh, and your dreads being wavy sounds cute, I wouldn't worry, they'll tighten up in time. xxx

I <3 curley dreads ... consider yourself blessed.

As far as the itching goes ... tree tree oil would be your best bet. I would recomend ditching the herbal essences though ... That wont do anything good for you dreads. I use dreadhead HQ and love it. Keeps my scalp clean, and my dreads tight. :D

    It's expensive and I'm poor =P
I'll look into it, though. I'll have to find some tea tree oil.

    Thanks!

I would reccomend Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree liquid soap. I used to use the DreadheadHQ soap and wasn't really happy with it. Dr. Bronner's was a night and day difference for my dreads. It has held the hair together better, helped tighten better and they look really healthy. Mine are only 2 months old and they look almost like some 6 month dreads (curly hair, go figure.) Good luck.

I buy it online because its cheaper, but I'm pretty sure Whole Foods has it if you have one of those near you

Most any health-food type store will carry Bronner's, and it can be dilluted to stretch farther. If the itchies keep on bothering you, you can make a very soothing dready rinse with apple cider vinegar, rosemary, and vit. e... I have a recipie for it posted somewhere around here...

Washing them everyday might be a bit excessive. It doesn't allow for your natural oils in your scalp to produce. Oils aren't necessarily BAD...they protect your scalp from drying out, but TOO MUCH oil is NOT good for dreads.

I think two or three times a week (depending on how oily your hair gets) is probably good enough for you.

It's obvious you're drying out your scalp right now...and that's not a good thing.

I usually wash my hair every 2 or 3 days... Or if i Forget when i washed my hair the last time, I wash it that night :p... With that i dont get that much itchy scalp, it still itchs but not to the point where i must itch it. :D

    Regarding Dr Bronners-
It seems expensive but that is because it is concentrated. It is a great soap and I use it.
You can use the bar or the liquid. I use the liquid for bathing and thebar for my hair. The bar gets super-lathery. If your health food store is large enough, they might have a bulk liquid Bronner's pump, where you fill up your own container and it's even cheaper than regular bronner's.
They also are certified vegan/cruelty free, even if they are a little nutty.
