so, i made the top. i made the bottom. i think i went about it all wrong though. i pretty much made a pretty rectangular piece of patched fabric for the skirt; i have not attached the sides to make it into a skirt. given it's rectangular shape, i am wondering if i fudged up the chance of it lookin like a groovy skirt rather than a potato sack. the bodice piece looks cool. so the question: how do i attach the two so that it turns into a functional dress? how do i turn something not a-lined into a-line goodness? this has promise, but i'm stuck.
is the bodice open or closed back? i would prolly gather the bottom n then sew it on the top..like babydoll style.. if its open back you can leave it as it is and sew elastic into the back.. i dunno if thats any help without me goin into more detail.. good luck..
yeah, i can add 2 triangles. the bodice is full - 2 sided. what do you mean by gather? like, crinkle it?
if yer bottom part is fairly bigger than your bodice you can machine gather the fabric first and then sew it on.. to do so you just put yer machine on the longest straight stitch and let up yer tension to about 2.. sew one line of stitches across the top of the dress bottom..then another right next to it..keeping the threads long at both the beginning and end... since you let up the tension its super easy to pull the bottom threads n gather the fabric. then you just pin it to fit the bodice, sew it n iron it down on top n..tada.. its best not to gather if you have thicker fabric..lightweight cottons n such work best...otherwise it adds a lot of bulk... i hope this helps you in some way n i didnt type all that for nothing... )
yes, it does help! that might be a good solution for turning my oversized rectangle into a ladylike triangle!!!
yeah as long as its not too bulky..gathering can be really cute! good luck! i wanna see it when its done!!
if it does get bulky, would doing the slashes/ v-cuts like one would do on a shirt sleeve be appropriate? I'd think that would eliminate some bulk. (look at a sleeve pattern to see what I'm saying.)
