in case anybody here was wondering... Outdoor Mushroom Cultivation By observing wild mushrooms fruiting in their natural habitats one can begin to understand their growth requirements. Psilocybe Cyanescens grows along fence lines, hedge rows, in tall grass, berry thickets, beneath rhododendrons and in piles of wood chips. In many instances the shrooms are found growing in soil, but upon closer examination it is apparent that they are feeding on wood or other similar cellulosic material. Due to the thick strandy mycelium of PsillyCyans, it is easy to locate and gather colonized pieces of substrate. These pieces can be used to colonize similar materials. Freshly cut chips of alder(first choice), maple and fir all support healthy mycelial growth. PsillyCyan mycelium colonizes fresh substrate so rapidly that there is little risk of contamination. In order to prepare inoculum for the following year, the newly inoculated chips are kept indoors in gallon jars or ziplock bags. With sufficient moisture, minimal air exchange, and normal indoor temperatures, the mycelium soon spreads through the chips. As one jar becomes fully colonized it can be used to innoculate more chips. In the spring freshly cut branches are chipped, then mixed with the fully colonized inoculum and placed into a hole 15cm deep and 2 feet wide. To insure a humid microclimate beds should be made in the shade of a shrubbery such as a rhododendron, or on grass which is allowed to grow up through the bed. The bed must never be exposed to direct sunlight, but it should not be so well protected that rainfall cannot reach it. Cover the bed with leaves and water during extended dry periods, but with care not to flood it. Throughout the winter the beds can be protected by a layer of strwa, leaves, cardboard or woodchips. Other possibilities for cold winter areas include making the bed inside a cold frame or greenhouse. Once a bed has been established, it can be used to innoculate other beds and with regular maintainance, will provide far into the future. Adapted from: The Mushroom Cultivator By: Paul Stamets + J.S. from what I understand, it's a bit tough to grow the wood-loving varieties, particularly the azurescens; though they're the most potent species on the planet.
really? thats what i plan to grow. im gonna use your method. they are growing all over the damned place. there are alot of fallen and rotting trees in my forest thanx to recent storms and they are sprouting all over. so how potent are these things? and if they are so potent, then why is everyone growing Cubensis?
people grow cubensis because they are big and easy to grow, i hear that cubensis are easier to grow than grocery store varieties.. curious that is..
hmmm....well i went hunting recently (for shrooms) and i only found the edible and poisonous variety...no P. varieties at all.....what is uslually a good time of year for the Cyans?
Hmmm do you have to buy spores or do these grow pretty easily by just having good soil in the right spot
