Stumbled upon a quarter of mushies today, decided to pick them for when the sun comes back out. The kid I bought them from is an idiot (siigh I always have to deal with so many idiots). He had them in his freezer in a zip lock because they were fresh (wrong) and fresh is more potent (ugh.. moron). They look like good mush, nice connected stems and cap. Except it appears the bag was not tight and they were exposed to some moisture. Some stayed dry but a few feel moist/slightly soggy. I've layed them out with a fan blowing over them hoping to get them back to a proper dry state. Some of them still look OK, but some of the soggy ones look pretty dark. I'm used to nice whitish tan stems and tan caps these are much darker then that. Have I thrown my money away? I'm hoping I can dry them out and salvage the poor bastards. Anything to fear in eating them? Thanks kindly, Stiggy
They will probably turn into mush when you defrost them. I hope he didn't sell you an eighth of fresh shrooms.
Nah they weren't fresh, I'd turn my back on that trust me. They were properly dried, seem to be quality boomers which for some reason he thought were fresh. I really doubt he has any idea what fresh really means. In having them in the freezer they picked up some moisture and weren't hard and woody as I'd have them. They seem to be drying out and returning to a normal state. To clarify they weren't completely saturated, some were just a little soggier then others esp. in certain spots. I've had them under a fan for a few hours and they are 'crisping' up like they should have been in the first place. My question is more in regards to their exposure to moisture and subsequent re-drying, and how this affects 'em. Here's hopin! Regards, Stig P.S. I mentioned I really wanted to find some 'cid for the Phil and Trey show I'm hitting, he "has a buddy who makes his own, it's really good" Ok buddy LOL
I don't know. If they were fresh then fresh shrooms turn dark blue - blackish when they are handled a bit. Were they soggy as in "cracker floatin in a cup of water for 3 hours" or just squishy. Because if it's the latter it doesn't seem like you have anything to worry about. I don't know if psilocin or psilocybin gets destroyed when frozen. Try Ask Erowid at Erowid.org.
