Will hair that is loosely backcombed form into dreads eventually. I have done the no conditioner, no brushing, bit for a WHILE. I was just wanting to give my hair a jumpstart. I don't care if this comes out and then dreads form, I just want it to somehow dread up. Will this maybe help it? I put elastics at the end just to separate my hair a bit.

Well, I loose backcombed some, and braided the others. Right now, my hair looks...not so good. Do you think that the braids will dread up eventually? I have the backcombed parts and the braids just elastics at the bottoms. I'll take a pic soon.

I think loose backcombing might help.. maybe, but braids will probably not turn into dreads, the hair can't tangle when it's braided!

I keep my hair in braids to prevent tangles... doubt it will dread, no matter how long you wait. rubber bands sometimes prevent dreading, as well. You might want to try using beads instead, and use "twist n rip" method instead of backcombing. It didn't look as nice, but worked much better on my child's hair. The backcombed hair all had to fall out before it could dread.

try spraying some salt water on your hair. It will help it tangle up

Be careful with salt water. I used this to start my dreads (before backcombing) and even 2 months afterwards I am picking out crystallized pieces of salt from my hair.

hm, maybe it depends on the type of salt used? I never seemed to have the problem, and I used salt water a couple times a month for years. I've heard lemon juice can also help in knotting your hair up.

I made a bottle of salt water once... I sprayed it into my hair, some time later the water evaported and the only thing what was left was salt. And everytime i shaked my head, peices or tiny salt grains would fly out... :p, so the question is, how much salt do you put into water to make salt water?... :p

we use the dhhq (don't laugh, I didn't know better) "dread accelerator" that is just sea salt in water, but I water it down about ten times more dilute than they say to and it works great, speeds up the palmrolling a lot. at full strength, it just left her hair all salty and weird and made her scalp itch. so I'd say the saltwater solution should be slightly less saline than tears or seawater to work best.

Yeah, don't hate me, but I used to work at DHHQ. I didn't have dreads when I worked there. I'm just starting mine now. I'm just hoping that after the loose backcombing and washing 2times a week with dr.bronner's soap, that everything will turn out ok. I'll post a pic later.
