Hey, I used to be quite the artist, in all sorts of media (oil pastels and Sharpie markers are my favorite) ... but lately I have been in a rut. I have plenty of ideas, but when it comes to cracking out the tablet I just can't do it. Any advice on how to break the block? Thanks! - K
do you draw what you see, like look at something and kinda copy it, or does it come from the mind or??
When I write, I try to capture what I see and duplicate it ... when I draw, it comes straight out of my mind. (I'm no good at drawing from life -- it always takes on my own personal slant!) The other day I started writing on writerscafe.org, and since have posted two decent stories ... I think maybe it is the pressure of wanting to create, that in turn creates a block. I am still struggling with mine -- I'll let you know how it unfolds. Thanks!
Don't look for inspiration, it won't come naturally. Something will inspire you, and just apply it. I think all artists get artists' block for sure. Just let it come to ya.
buy a really nice pen and a brand new sketch book then sit in a quiet place. That often works for me - trouble is I have a problem getting off my ass to go and do it! oh - and a visit to a big gallery full of classical works always inspires me too - on a day where you just feel like taking time out
This was taken from Wikipedia about writers block, ok it's not artists block, but its close enough, and i've used a few of the methods when i get artists block and they usually work Various strategies for overcoming Writer's Block Some authorities have recommended the following to those suffering from writer's block: Setting a time and write whatever comes to mind, without stopping, for that period of time. Using writers' exercises. They use many websites that contain numerous creative writing exercises such as: The Screenwriter's Toolkit. Writers read an exercise, and do it. Taking a break, meditating, or doing relaxation exercises to relieve any pressure on oneself and on the writing. Doing something out of the ordinary. If writer's block comes from a lack of new ideas, attempts to spark creativity by going somewhere new or doing something different can be useful. Returning to the writing after a lapse of a day or two. Write a basic plot outline of the book from beggining, middle and conclusion if having problems to keep your story on the rails. hope that helps !
easy going, there are high points and low ones. Basicly I keep producing art each day, im a proffesional in art (graduated) and since I have to earn a living from it I keep in mind that well produced shit also sells. What I do to keep going is when I dont have a idea I copy holiday pictures, animals and whatever not I track down from google, after some days there's enough again to keep going for some time. Sometimes I also do remakes of previous works to see if there's something new in there. Basicly the thing is to keep focused on working, when Im busy with other things for some days it gets heavy to see this big canvas in front of my nose again, but when your busy with it each day you dont give a damn about it anymore since you know it will turn out ok, I mean it did with all the previous things too. People are always busy with have problems on finding ideas but when you invent ideas while working this wont be a problem anymore. So go on! 3 lines on paper, maybe a curve or whatever and see what it makes you think of and go on! 2 more to do and you have a good one on which you can focus. Love, Skhipper
