after having sex, if you think you might be pregnant....how long do you have to wait to get an accurate response with the home pregnancy kit?

It really depends on the test you buy. There are a few that will give you fairly accurate results up to five days before your period is due, but my advice would be to definitely wait until about a week after your period is due to get a test.

I went through a scare myself and missed my period for an entire month, took two tests, both showed negative, but then I ended up starting my period at the right time the next month. Sometimes your body does weird things like that and skips cycles, but to be sure, if your period is over a week late, definitely get a test. The packages that come with two tests are the best bargains because if you aren't sure the first test came out right, you can do it again a few days later without having to worry about running back to the store.

Also, when you take the test, do it on your first urination of the day. Pregnancy hormones are most present in your body in the early morning. Best of luck!

Same here. But I suggest that you wait two weeks after having sex. I did some research on that for myself a few months ago. Good Luck....

It's best that you wait to see if your period is late. Tests are more accurate then. What exactly makes you worry that you might be pregnant? Any symptoms yet? Keep in mind a lot of the symptoms of early pregnancy are the same as right before you get your period, so don't worry quite yet.

There are various tests with different sensitivity levels; starting with 10-hcg going up to 50+hcg. 10hcg levels are very sensitive so they should register the slightest increase in this hormone (which grows exponentially as pregnancy develops from the baseline of 5mcg or sth like that). The downside of using such tests is a false positive result because their are over-sensitive. But try one of those if you want to get quicker results, but know that they may give you a wrong result (20-30mcg levels are standard tests.) Also, do check early in the morning before using a bathroom. When my wife got pregnant, she got her first positive result I think a week after her estimated conception date using 20hcg.

My wife was sick for weeks before we got a postive test. She knew she was preg, but the tests all said no.
