well my doctor, I've decided, really sucks. I don't know what to look for as signals that I should go to the hospital. My OB hasn't really told me anything. My mom helped me confirm that what I'm having ARE contractions and tonight I've had 25 small, menstrual cramp feeling ones from between 7:04 and 1:15. mostly they last only a few minutes and are about 10 minutes apart. I don't know if this is the time I should be going to the hospital or not! My grandparents are asleep (Grandpa, the only driver, is drunk), and my mom's not picking up her phone. I don't have anyone else to ask. HELP ME!
Well, when they're two minutes apart is when it's time to wait no longer. If it might be difficult to get transportation you might want to go sooner. If it's gonna be difficult to get transportation, don't hesitate to call an ambulance.
gonna call the hospital and see what they say. I can't afford no ambulance so if it comes down to it I'll steal the grandparents car and go early.
well, it's about seven hours since you posted this... hope all is well. I had those irregular, 10 minutes or so apart contractions for a day and a half before really going into labor. Always trust your gut instincts. Go in when you are afraid to wait any longer, but it's not a good idea to go in too soon if you are having a hospital birth and don't have a doula. now, this just made me laugh. My contractions never got that close together, not even during transition. But my contractions never really got regular either. Some were much more intense than others, and some were much closer together than others, and I labored a grand total of three hours from start to finish, with only fifteen minutes of pushing!
Usually, it is real labor if you can't speak during the contractions. I remember calling my doctor, thinking I was in early labor, (as I had had preterm labor, I didn't realize full term labor was much different) and he said, "You aren't ready yet. I'd hear huffing and puffing, and you just talked to me almost all the way through a contraction. When you are about 4 cm, you won't be able to do that." He was right, when it came time, there was no denying it. Good luck. We may have two mamas in labor today. Candles lit. Prayers said. Good luck, Tamee.
I could still talk through my contractions, all the way until the pushing stage. That's why I had DH call my midwife, so she would actually show up, because I had read somewhere a midwife said she knew it was really time if the partner called... LOL Labor is totally individual experience, different for everyone (except, maybe, in the case of induction, where it follows the nice neat pattern doctors expect)
That's what I'm afraid of with me....I'm not normally normal. I don't follow normal patterns or anything, and I'm really and truly afraid that I'm going to have a head sticking out of my yoni before the midwife even thinks I'm ready for labour...
Well I had my baby! we went in at 4, although we probably could have waited. My mom's friend took me in anyway and since she was my ride and was actually awake that early, I went with her. I really shouldn't be sitting at the computer cuz it's starting to hurt, but I just wanted to let you guys know! everything went really well and they all say I did a really good job considering it was my first. she was born on May 11th at 12:07, 7lbs 28 ounces and screaming. i still can't believe I did it!!
