no....it takes a lonnng time for dreads to look good/presentable/ whatever u wanna call it. Dont give up within the first months.. it will get better. and u will prolly get alot of shit for having nappy hair so be prepared for that. other than that, have fun with them and NO WAX, EVER!!

The dreadlock kits you get are not going to help any. They're trying to sell products...they don't care what you do to your hair.

Stop combing/brushing, stop conditioning, don't use wax, and palm roll on occasion. Oh yeah, and keep them clean. Grease and knots do not go together.

Where some kind of hat when you are going through a forest. Everything sticks to your hair... If you dont wear somesort hat things are going to get into you dreads/hair and its going to be a pain to get them out alone...

But I still need to figure a way out how to put flowers in my hair... >.>

dreads are not an instant hairstyle. be patient. it takes a long time to get nice dreads, no matter what those "dread-making kits" would have you believe. backcombed hair is not dreadlocks, and it will most likely all have to fall out before it can start dreading up anyway, so why bother?

Before the person at the salon starts on your hair, you should find out what technique she/he will be using. If they are using wax, forget it.

Wax goops the hair together, it doesn't KNOT the hair together, which is what dreadlocks actually are...lots and lots of knots.
Backcombing isn't BAD per se, but it really doesn't do much to your hair as far as dreads go. Most of the time, the hair you backcomb falls out and THEN your hair starts to dread...it's almost like a waste of time, like mamaboogie said.

so if i dont use wax or backcombing then what should i use ?
does the wax not help in anyway at all...even if you use alittle and just at the start ?

Wax will get into your dread and will make it mold and, like I said, it goops it together...it might look neat, but they are not dreads.

You can use the natural method to do your dreads...that means, don't use conditioner, don't comb it, and don't use wax...hair will dread naturally on its own.

Yea just leave your hair how it is... Separate when needed, palm roll it as often as you can...
And for some reason I have 3 packages of hair wax that people gave to me, thinking it well help with my dreads. The only thing i use them for is to see my finger prints in the wax :p Can you make candles out of hair wax?

keep them clean, but don't overwash. palm-rolling helps sort out the flat and/or crookedy new dreads. I often have to rip two dreads apart when they try to grow together. we sometimes put beads in for decoration, and to encourage loose hairs to combine with already knotted locks. that's about it.
