I've got an opportunity to move out to California in the next month or so. I've just finished tech school and an Audi training program. Niello Audi in Sacramento and Nader Volkswagen in Eureka are both looking to hire new techs. Can you guys tell me anything about these 2 dealerships. Also, whether there are any colleges near Eureka. What about cost of living? And is Eureka close to the Ocean or up in the hills? Any information or impressions you want to throw my way are welcome. I'm more looking for the right feeling than anthing else. Thanks, peace, out.
i'm not sure about either dealership but i guess it depends on how much work you wanna do. i'd assume the sacramento dealership would get a lot more business being that it's in a big city. eureka would definitly be a slower paced enviroment all around. humboldt state is up that way. i believe its in the town of arcadia, i could be wrong though. might also be cheaper to live there. maybe you should check out both places before deciding if at all possible
I'm in PA right now. If/when I make the trip out there it will be one way. I'm already leaning towards the Eureka dealership. Either way it is still very much up in the air.
eurika's on the coast, far north west corner of the state. sacramento's in the middle of the central valley, hundred miles from the sea. i'm 15 miles north east of there on the major corridor, i-80 and the first transcontental railroad, goin east from there. the hills start another 15 miles east and 30 more is the little town up in the hills where i grew up. i don't know anything else about eurika other then what people have told me, most of which i don't remember. may have been through there a couple of times but that's all. were i live, roseville, is considered part of the sac metro area, though it's a different county, placer, with it's own different local bus system. i don't that much care for sacramento itself, other then that it's got trolleys. the place for culture and live music, this side of the san francisco bay, which incidently sacramento is about a hundred miles inland from, is the grass vally/nevada city area, which is only another 30 miles norht east of here, again up in my hills. for a pair of little towns there's at least five live bands, good ones, preforming at verious venues arround there every night! i think nevada city california is as if not more, hip, then san francisco and berkley. of course that's just my opinion. sacramento's got c.s.u. and accross the yolo causeway goin toward the bay is u.c. davis. davis is the state's big ag collage, but it's a whole lot hipper then ag sounds like. and there's always stuff goin on there too. davis and sacramento both have food coops, and roseville, where i live, has denio's and 'auction town'. this weekend going on in davis, it was all day yesterday may 13th, was the whole earth festival. up in nevada city we've got a little radio station, kvmr, it's on the web at kvmr.org were you can listen live and get a feel for what the grass valley/nevada city area is like. i think eurika is where law enforcement tortured logging protesters putting pepper spray in their eyes with q-tips. so even though it's on the coast, and sacramento isn't, i'd consider going for the sacramento option and commuting from someplace like auburn or even grass valley. eurika is basicly redwood logging. the lumbering industry is the basis of it's economy, and indiginous rights tend to take last place, even the farmers get short shrift from the lumbering industry. i doubt if there's a whole lot of love in that town for anyone who resembles a hippie, though i could be mystaken. there IS pretty scenery and the cost, just maybe a little red necked is all. =^^= .../\...
Hey I'm a tech too and also moving to CA soon. staying down south though. I am trying to find a roommate or two.
yeah, my plan is to go to the nearest college and check out the roommate boards. There are always college kids looking for roommates. I've gotten the offer from Eureka and will be interviewing for Sacremento next Wednesday. I think that if I get the option, I wil go to Sacramento. Eureka seems very nice but it is very rural and the dealership is very small. I just don't think that Eureka wil have the amount of opportunity that I am looking for.
