I just found out the US doesn't have an official language.


Which only makes me more angry when people say the immigrants HAVE to learn English. Yeah, itd increase their chances of success.. but its not necessary.

I'm very pro immigration, but I feel we should make some knowledge of english a basis for testing for citizenship.

I don't want immigrants to give up their culture. One of the things I do like about this country is diversity, but a limited knowledge of englsih will severly limit a persons chances to work anything besides under the table jobs without insurance.

My solution is tougher border security, while at the same time, drastically increasing the amount of Visa's we grant. Having that would help both problems, but of course, theres no silver bullet.

It would also help to prevent terrorism and drug smuggling. I'm not anti-drug or anything. What a person choses to due to their body is personal choice, although the illicit drug trade is payed for in blood.

It's a little complicated.

I found out that to get british citizenship you don't need to speak english....



as long as you can speak welsh or scottish gaelic

I think people moving to englsih speaking countries shouls speak english. And people moving to chinese speaking countries should earn chinese, and people moving to India should learn Hindi, but Polish? Comon, that language won't be around in 100 years.

I mean, they'll be people who study Polish literature, but by that time, every single person in Poland will speak another language. Almost everyone there aready do.

ahahah we were so talking about this at work today. but the general agreement was that yes, immigrants should be able to speak english. i mean, why the fuck wouldnt they?? if they want to speak their language so bad, they should stay in their fuckin country and speak it.

I know that if you want to immigrate in Canada you must show you at least know a little french or english ...

america is a country built on the idea of cultures all living together (a melting pot). Who the fuck has the right to tell someone they HAVE to learn english? It should be their choice. I mean what are you going to do? put them in jail for being true to themselves? if they want to succeed and become some corporate square, than yeah they need to learn english. but they can choose not to. its their life.

 

meh. nobody has any right at all to become an economic migrant. you can allow or disallow whoever you want.

of course, you'd be better off using more useful criteria, but language isn't awful either.
