Kava Kava

I was reading about Kava Kava on www.psychoactiveherbs.com and they described it as the "social man's high" and that at higher doses it can be hypnotic and euphoric, among other things. I was just wondering if anyone had tried Kava and how is it?

I have taken it several times. It is supposed to be a "natural" benzodiazepine, like Valium, Xanax, Librax, Ativan, etc. It does have some calming effect, although I wonder if it is more placebo effect than anything else. Stores have taken it off the shelves because a direct link between Kava Kava and acute liver failure has been found. I wouldn't take it, again. Also, be careful with "natural" products. I think the word "natural" is often very misleading to consumers. Tobacco, poison ivy, and arsenic are all natural. Natural does not equal safe. Furthermore, it would not be natural to cosume several hundred milligrams of any herbal extract in a normal diet.

is there a way to mask that utterly vile taste? i tried putting it on a hotdog bun and i almost gagged it up 3 times.

 

I've never heard of anyone having a good trip (or even a trip at all) off kava. For that matter, do some real research. Of course these guys are going to tell you how great it is, they're trying to sell it to you.

 

Kava is great but it's got to fresh good stuff. If the powder is poor quality or has been lying around for months, it won't work. I buy mine here http://www.mauikava.com/ and keep it in a sealed bag in the freezer.
Prepare it by putting about 2 tablespoons in a blender with some water and sunflower oil and a tablespoon of Lecithin granules (health food store) and blend for a couple of minutes. True, it tastes like shit, but believe me it works, you get real chilled and stoned. Try it with a joint !!
