I bought this DVD a few years back. When I watched it, it was a dark, stormy October night, and I was stoned out of my mind. I turned all the lights out and watched this, and it got to me. I mean, lost in the woods at night with freaky shit going on all around is bad enough. But that part at the end in that old abandoned house about freaked me out. I guess it was a combination of the weed, the setting, and the fact that I hadn't seen it before. When I watch it now it's just lame.
Right on. Anyone who can't appreciate this movie doesn't know what a horror movie is. The point of it is that it sparks you imagination and lets you insert your own imagery, because it isn't presented to you. That way it plays on your personal fears and is much freakier. That's why it also might be lame the next time you watch it, cause you know what to expect.
When I first saw The Blair Witch Project, it was with my best friend in my father's old Victorian house. We turned off the lights and turned on the movie. She was terrified. I was not. I had a lot of fun spooking her out during the movie, though... Everyone I knew had a strong opinion on whether it was genius or pathetic. I was pretty indifferent. Then, about a year ago, my roommate mentioned he never saw it. I was surprised, so I ran to the video store and rented it. For a laugh, I rented the sequel, Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows, too. I figured I'd make some popcorn and we'd have a cheesy horror fest. I couldn't believe it, but I was totally freaked out the second time I watched it. I'd forgotten most of the storyline and the sense of impending doom and terror really hit me. I loved it! Then, I popped in the sequel expecting total crap... Again, I was shocked. I enjoyed the sequel more than the original. I love how they use the "hype" created by the first flick to found the second film. I love how they didn't try to make another "shakey-camera" style movie, but went an entirely different route. And the Wiccan chick and the goth chick were HOT! A few days after, I bought both movies. I bought the first one at a Thirft Store for a fuckin' quarter!! I spent a little more on the sequel, but it's supposed to have some decent special features that I haven't looked into yet...
I saw this film with some friends, one of which had this look of total terror through the entire film gripped the arms of the seat like he was going to have a fit and then when the film finished, went that was crap it wasnt scarey a bit
My buddy saw a bootleg of Blair Which, a couple of months before it was released, alone in his room on his computer at 2am.....all the while under the impression it was all real. I remember he popped online and begged me with his life to come hang with him because he was so scared. His reaction was pricless when i told him it wasn't real. He felt like a huge boner. I shit the first time i saw it though, my friends and i were so fucked by it we were practically in tears at the end. But like the above poster said, once i watched it a second time, it was super lame. Never gave the sequel a chance either....i've never liked a sequel.
I thought this was a pretty awesome movie. It scared the shit out of me. I don't know what it is about the amature (if that's the right word?) filming off it, but that made it seem SO real. Wasn't there a second one? Worth watching?
I like it Me and my friends like making the little men made out of sticks and hanging them places in the woods. Haha we're losers.
I've been a horror fan since I was seven. I thought Blair Witch was all hype. Found it extremely boring. JMHO, I'm glad there are people that got something out of it.
I love horror films and this movie sucked. I threw up during it and felt sick to my stomach the rest of the night. Wasn't scarey AT ALL.
This movie was only good before its own hype caught up with it. It was never meant to 'scare' the audience as much as it was meant to put the audience in the same panic the three cast members were experiencing. On that level, it worked very well. Eventually, it got crushed by its own success. People went to see it because they thought it would be a Friday the 13th genre horror film about three college age kids getting lost in the woods being stalked by some malignant threat, which it was. But it was told in first-person instead of second-person. The audience experiences the story the same way the three cats members did.
I saw the "documentary" on the sci-fi and was like holy shit, this movie is going to be great. I watched it and sat a little to close. the camera was fucking annoying but I actually enjoyed it. I remember going to my friends house and turning on the tv. Yeah there sat the bitch that was suppose to be dead on freakin Leno. I was upset.
not only was this movie not scarey it was dull & the actors got on my nerves. good ending though, could have been a great movie. maybe somebody should redo it.....
im n ot going to lie when i seen this movie it is the film to make me feel the way it did.i mean it was like it fucked with a part of me i didnt even know i had.i mad my gf at the time sleep on the phone with me with the lights on.
first film is decent. being a british civilian and knowing nothing of the lifestyles of people around where the film is set or having any knowledge of the history there, god knows whether it's true or not. I highly doubt it though, for the camera at the end was dropped on the floor in the house - now surely, the people that "found" this tape would have gone through something similar to the original 3 "actors" on their way to finding the tape, or if not then definitely in that house where a figure was seen in the corner of the room. has nobody pointed this logic out yet??? the sequel is good, because it's not supposed to be real but various true stories dramatised into one action packed special effects movie. for anyone that says it's shite they couldn't of seen it or seen it properly. what a twist. THE CAMERA NEVER LIES - sorry, but that fucking rocks.
i saw it right when it came out and there was still rumours that it was real so yeah i was scared, but it is definately not scary after you know it's actors. i still hate to think about the end when i'm in my basement though, but i'm such a wimp in that way, lol! it must have been fun to make the film. running through the woods and playing ghosts! the idea of the filming style is nice and original even if it isn't effective for everyone. they makers even had this great website that played on the idea that the story was true and that the film footage was found by a group of anthropology students (i think) buried in a way that would have been only possible if it was buried for one hundred years. yeah i guess it's silly but i thought it was a lot of fun in a pretend halloween when your a kid sort of way. you know, like when you used to tell your friends ghost stories and get yourself really freaked out in that fun preteen kind of way. i really loved the blair witch project for that reason. it was fun to believe! kathy
