hey i jjust gemrinated my seeds in rubber sealed containers with 3 paper towels on bottm, seeds in middle and thenm 3 more towels. I put them in my dreser drawer with a heating pad on LOW. when should i start to see if they pop? also, should i plant as soon as the root pops out, or wait for it to get like 1/4 inch or so? does mygerminations process sound alright? i hope it works. when should i check them, 2ite, 2marrow morning? thanks alot for the help
Yoyo just germinated some myself took em 2-3 days, longer than I though. Had to rewater the towels 2x a day. I didn't put em in tupperware or a heating pad, I don't know if the heating pad will affect it, but I doubt it
I germinated yesterday. I just put the seeds in a wad of papertowel folded over, put that in a tupperware container, watered the shit out of the papertowel, just not enough to pool in the container. Then I put that under my bed. I checked it 24 hours later and 12/14 had poped with roots ranging from 1/8" and 1/4". 24 hours from that (currently) they are ranging from 1/4" to almost an inch. I don't think the heat pad is necesary, as long as you keep the seeds moist. I'd check em every 12 hours at the most. Plant them root pointing down 1/2" under the soil and give em a good water.
A heating pad does help to speed up germination, but it's not required. Too much heat will kill the seed. I put my seeds on top of my TV. It gives off enough heat to warm them up a bit. They usually sprout within 1 or 2 days. Use a sealable container so you can keep in the moisture. Or use a saucer and cover with saran wrap. So you don't have to water them 2 times a day. A soon as the seed splits and you see a tail, it's germintated. Plant it tail down, 1 knuckle deep (push your finger into the soil up to your first knuckle), and lightly bury it. You only need to check your seeds once a day, or even every other day. Germinated seeds will survive for up to a week in the paper towel. If they sit in the water too long though, the roots will rot and your seed will die. But one or two days won't harm them as long as they don't dry up and aren't exposed to light for any prolonged period of time.
I started germinating a few bag seeds a couple days ago, they have been germinated for about 48 hours now and some of the seed casing have come off exposing the two round leaves, kinda yellowish, are they ruined? I have a whole bunch more, so im not really worried about it, just curious. If I get them in the soil tomorrow will they be ok?
As long as they aren't mushy, they will be OK. I've even planted mushy sprouts before, and in fact my mother plant I have now was a mushy sprout, and it's turned into the best of the bunch! (she came from bag seed too) If the casing has come right off, it would be a good idea to plant them ASAP. If the starter leaves begin to rot, the seedling will almost definitely be a lost cause. If you have to, you can slow them down by keeping them cool. Not too cold so they die, but warmth will encourage growth and rot. You can cool them a bit by floating a styrofoam plate in a cooler full of cool to cold water. The fridge is too cold.
