ACK!!! please, someone, tell me what to do with all these extra toys?
okay, see, what happened is this. Last November, I put away a room full of toys. I told the girls that if they missed something and wanted it back, all they had to do was ask for it and it's theirs. But, the toys they did not miss and did not ask for between November and the end of April (oldest DD's birthday) was going away forever. So now I have literally, tons of toys I need to do away with. Some rather expensive, some cheap junk, none of it broken. Some of it's even brand new, played with only once before I couldn't take the noise and hid them in hopes the kids would never miss them (electronic and talking toys from in-laws, mostly).
I was going to just auction it all on Ebay, like dump it in "mystery" boxes full of toys... just never got around to taking photos or weighing it. seriously, what in the world am I supposed to do? I can't bring myself to just throw it away, and I'd give it all away if anyone wanted it, but nobody I know does want any more toys. help! (now I know why everyone had hidden toys in those boxes of clothes they gave me when my oldest was a baby. it's a rotten trick, I tell ya')

You could donate them to a local women's shelter. Many women escaping DV take nothing but their kids and the clothes on their backs. It would be a nice treat for the kids.

Donate it to a womens shelter, also we have something called Fathers Jeans. where they accept donations of toys and clothing and give it away free to familys who cant afford things for their children Im sure they have some sort of program like that near you.

We have freecycled some, and donated others to the children's hospital downtown. I also found that a local WIC center has a room full of donated toys & clothes for young'uns, so we gave some to them as well. Either way if you have toys to give away, someone can & will use them.

Yesterday afternoon we went through our VHS movies & I set a box full of about 40 movies in the front yard with a label saying FREE... please take me! They stayed for about an hour, and then a mom with 3 small kiddies in tow came by & picked the whole box up :)
    love,
    mom

when my kids grow out of things be it toys or clothes I take them to a second hand shop which sells them and in turn they keep 20 % (I think) but the rest of the money I have to put in their piggy banks or buy things they need with... like Noah's (my youngest boy) last summer clothing... I am taking it over to the second hand baby shop and with the money I get back I'm going to buy a some summer clothes for him in the size he wears now. I just keep turning it around...works pretty well for me with saving money and getting rid of all my extra stuff.

You could always get the kids to help you "give" the toys to a local women's shelter.

It truly is a great idea to give them to those less fortunate.

My mother would take us into our bedrooms and go through our toy boxes before Christmas every year. We would take out the toys we didn't play with (even if it took some coaxing) and place them in a bag or box to be given to another little kid that didn't have any toys...and I've done it almost every year since with my clothing, books, and other things...

We always give things to a nearby shelter for homeless families. The folks living there have a sort of flea market-yard sale thing going on and they earn money that way selling off the donations they don't need or want. Another good option.

I agree with the shelter idea. (Unless you do have the time to bring it to a Consignment shop.) Many of those poor children have left everything behind with their abusive fathers or "step dads" and are really sad and have little to play with. I have given a lot of stuff to our local Shelter. The only thing they can't take is open food and mattresses.
