anybody know what's up with the two gatherings for the beggining of july? one in colorado and one in the ozarks... seems silly to have them both at the same time. is there some sort of east coast-west coast thing going on?

The Ozark one happens every year in the same place, at least I think it does. Reason being that that area of the country and south and east of that area are usually very far from the gathering site often too far for many folks. So this Oark gathering is there for folks who either can't or don't want to make the much longer trip to the site of the big national.

I remember going to the nationals in '93 in Alabama and finding out that a bunch of folks had formed an offshoot gathering in Kentucky, known in some circles as "the Kentucky uprising"...The rumor mill churned and I'm sure this is a similiar situation....

Okay, since we were the KC focalizers for many years, and saw all of this as it was starting, we're gonna try to explain this as kindly as possible....

There were some folks in KC & some folks in St. Louis who started some regionals down in the Ozarks. we never went to those regionals, so we don't know what the vibe was but one day at a Schwagstock a bro came up to us & started going on about how Rainbow had it all wrong and he knew a better way. This bro was a part of a tribe calling themselves the Peace Conspiracy. At some point, these regionals started happening on the same dates as the National/Annual and the focalizers putting them together started calling the Ozarks gatherings 'A Gathering of the Tribes'. Different folks go to the 'A Gathering' for different reasons but there is some 'anti-Rainbow' sentiment that resides in some of the folks that attend the 'A Gathering'. we personally refuse to have anything to do with the 'A Gathering' because we see it as the Peace Conspiracy trying to cause a split in Rainbow, but that's just our opinion...

I too had wondered what was up with the Ozark tribe gathering. I thought it was neat to have one nearer to many folks unable to travel to the actual annual gathering but wondered whether there was more to it. Thanks for sharing what you knew ... or at least some of what is known.

Actually, we know the whole story on this one, cuz we were in KY for 2 weeks, then went to AL for 2 weeks.

Sites were being scouted in both states as vision council '92 picked a region rather than a state. The Alabama site was basically picked as the Gathering site but the KY camp just didn't move even though we consensed to move to AL several times (and that is the only year that we actually attended councils). we scouted the KY site and it was a recovering strip mine, we saw empty bags of soda ash that had been dumped in streams to counter-act the poisons from the mining. In early scouting camp, we were showering with water that ran from a drainage pipe. we watched many Family that we knew well leaving the KY site soon after arriving to check the AL site and no one came back. we finally left and went to AL, where the site was beautiful. From what we heard, all worked out okay with the KY site, except for the growers who lost their crops; folks made the site work, so there must have been a reason that both sites turned into Gatherings.

The 'A Gathering' movie is an entirely different deal.....

    Ummm

Am I not correct...that the Missouri 96' was both gatherings together but was a small camp about 30 miles of the big one? I was there at the big one with along with a kitchen an was my very first gatherin. It was beautiful...we came early about a week..parked in A-camp first then got in bus village.
I had a wonderful an magical experience an so did my traveling partner :)

As I understand it, there are many gatherings the first week of July. Alot of folks just can't travel , esp this summer wuth the gas sitch. one more I found is at:
    http://www.feelfreefarmproject.org/annualgathering.html

In my humble opinion, we need to gather wherever we can. Love endures all things, even our crazy phamily!

It just gets to be a bummer when some of the Family one knows well is at one Gathering & others that one knows well are at another. For much of the road Family, the National/Annual is a Family reunion. AL/KY was a very hard movie on us cuz we kept seeing close Family leave KY and some folks that we're close to didn't make it to KY until after we left.

We kind of wish there were different dates for the Gatherings that coincide with National/Annual, but we understand that folks who can't make the drive would like to join in the OM from where ever they are....
