I saw a cooking show once when I was a kid where this woman and her young son go kill squirrels in the forest to make squirrel patties for party appetizers. Blechh...

It is actually legal to hunt them as long as they're in season.

My dad told me that when he was a little boy he would hunt squirrels & rabbits. But he said that when he reached his teens his parents had him stop, because they'd heard that the meat was contaminated with all sorts of parasites & thus was inedible. Is this just a northern US thing???

I do not know what kind of person you have to be to take the life of another sentient being...I do not think I could befriend a hunter....

Ughhh, I hate people like that. What an ass. He sounds like a redneck to me. Is everyone where you live like that? Around here we have Peacocks that walk around our neighborhoods, and this guy who knows I was a vegetarian and everything was like "This weekend I shot a peacock in the face. It was in my yard so I shot it! Whaddya think of that?!?!" He's a redneck and I'm not alone in saying he's an ass.

I believe you can call the police because of something like that. Shooting 3 feet from you is either a threat or endangerment or something.

that's why you don't notice as many freaks in Okla, we got a LOT of hassle in Norman alone. I can't imagine the redneck-deny you are Indian-Keating voters would be any more tolerant.
invite 'em to fire walk with you... heh heh heh

and after years of knowing subsistance hunters, I respect that more than the styro tray and cellofilm gatherers.

where I'm from, it's totally common to eat squirrel, rabbit, deer, etc. gross.

I've never heard of anyone eating possum, though.

I lived in Oklahoma for 36 years, and can't remember ever seeing anyone eat a squirrel or a opossum. What part of the state do you live in? I'm not teasing you. I'm really am curious. If people there are as rude as you say, I'd be inclined to avoid that area next time I'm in the state.

friends of mine on Cherokee Nation often made up that difference between the month and the money, usually with rabbit and fish. I did try rabbit once (I remeber Pratt's carried in in a styro tray!) and found it like oily poultry (turkey or goose) with a bit more interesting flavor.

Like today,, My drunk neighbor pissed on my microbus,,,and when i ran out of my house to get him away from it he yelled at me that tree huggers were slimy devil worshippers,,,Wtf ,,, how the hell can you be a devil worshipper if you dont belive in the devil,,, ****sigh*** Its really hard to ignore it when they follow you just to do these awful things,,, o well,.,,, Love n Let live right??

Is the Turley you're talking about?

For population 25 years and over in Turley:

    High school or higher: 68.0%
    Bachelor's degree or higher: 5.0%
    Graduate or professional degree: 1.3%
    Unemployed: 7.9%

Turley compared to Oklahoma state average:

Median house value significantly below state average.
    House age above state average.
Number of college students below state average.
Percentage of population with a bachelor's degree or higher significantly below state average.

I think socialists might refer to this as a rural ghetto.
Can't blame you for wanting to leave. I wish you luck on your rapid departure
