I heard Dan Brown was under heavy pressure to turn his documentary book into a fictional framework. He originally intended it as non-fiction.

But yeah, I can understand why they'd want to take it down. Wouldn't a Muslim group want to take down a poster that spread what they considered lies about islam?

Earlier this week, the Interior Ministry took down an enormous ad promoting the film that was plastered on the scaffolding of a Rome church after church officials complained that the film was against Christ (not on the church)! and the Catholic Church.​

conservative Catholic movement Opus Deihas, however, asked Sony to put a disclaimer on the movie saying it is a work of fantasy. Sony has not responded to that request but has said it views "The Da Vinci Code" as a work of fiction that isn't meant to harm any organization.​

If it was so, they will mention it, but they mentioned other reasons! AND IF It was so because it was on their church then this is their utter right! I will agree, but they gave other reasons.​
