Okay. So theres this guy-Chris and I met him thru my best friend, and we've been talking alot. Ok, i have really low self esstem but people tell me all the time that i have nothing to worry about becuz im pretty, but of course im not going to believe them. And Chris like has the same problem, but i dont know why cuz hes gorgeous and he tells me the same thing. anyway, thats not the problem. This is the problem, Chris just turned 21...and im not quite 17 yet. We're not together or anything, but the fact that he likes me and i feel the same is out in the open (between us that is) and i dont know what to do. I mean of course hes worried about my age and everything, but im not that worried about it, i guess becuz if anything did happen id have nothing to worry about, but he does. I dont know, is the age a big deal? And if so why? i guess thats it. thanks <3

I dont know many 21 year olds who'd hook up with 16 year olds. That doesn't mean they dont want to, it's just that most won't cross that line. The ones that actually do are branded chesters by all my friends and pretty much by everyone I know. A lot of people just think they're losers. Maybe we're just more uptight about this in southern california, i dont know. I hear it's pretty common in other states.
I was in a relationship with a man, who was 20yrs older.. and I can tell you, that age difference wasn't any reason to break up at all.
im 16 and have been dating a guy who just turned 22 for about 4 months now. its as if there is no age difference at all, but its all in what you make of it. if it botheres him or bothers you or even bothers someone close to you, like a parent, then that can make problems.
I'm twenty four and i was with someone who was forty. As one of the previous posters said, age wasn't the reason we broke up. Cheating asshole.....grrr mutter grumble.
The age difference is nothing. The fact that you are underage is dangerous. Any form of sex you have with him is RAPE in most states until you turn 18. If you have a platonic relationship until you are 18 you'll have no problem. At 17, I don't anticipate you wil be paying any attention to my suggestion but good luck anyway.
If it's out in the open, you'd both best wait until you're 18 to have sex. The law might be stupid, but if he has sex with you, he's a "child molester" in most States, and it carries a hefty prison sentence--not just County Jail either,we're talking State Prison. You probably don't want to put that on him, so it's best you both be careful. In the greater picture, it won't be too long before you're 18, and you can have all the fun you want.
Yeah, one year isn't a big deal. (till you turn 18) The older you get, the less it matters. I'm thirty two, & my SO is twenty five.
Well, it's not RAPE, it's statutory rape (which AFAIK is less severe), but it's still illegal. Check your state laws to be sure.
What state do you live in? Do you even live in North America? If you're planning on evenually having sex with him, the age of consent in MOST states is 16...but some states have this stupid "rule" that though the age of consent is 16, the partner cannot be more than four years older than you. Some don't have that rule...my state doesn't...the age of consent is just 16, and my boyfriend is 18, so we're good, lol. Well, I'd have sex with him anyway, I don't care...but we're "legal". Either way, it shouldn't matter...and if you don't have sex, your relationship is perfectly legitimate anyway...you can wait untill you're 18 if that's the age of consent in your state...if you are even going to have sex...I'm not assuming that you are, I'm just saying, just incase... i am 14 and im dating a guy that is 20 for about 4 months now too. Age shouldnt matter as long as this is a serious relationship and hes just not looking for sex. If there is love involved then it shouldnt be a problem. I have the same or sorta the same problem as you. My boyfriend is my best friends brother. And no one knows that were going out. We have to keep a secret like that until i turn 18. Unless someone finds out and makes us break up. or some bull shit like that. All im telling u is follow your heart and your true feelings if u love him and he loves u then it shouldnt matter what the age is.
oh god.. here, in czech republic, that wouldn't be any problem at all. I mean, sex is legal since 15yrs, but a normal relationship.. nobody would care god bless my liberal country
